First classroom reading of Grayson the Giraffe Climbs a Mountain!!! 🏔️ 🦒

I had the chance to visit a local Grade 1/2 class this week and share the story (including the real mountain climb that inspired it).

The students loved it! They were so engaged and curious... They asked A LOT of really great questions, which made the experience even more of a blast for me.

Like I can't even fully describe the feeling.

Just about wrapped up from my first day at the Alderney Landing Farmers Market 🦒💙

Seeing kids stop, smile, point at Grayson, and hearing parents say “this is such a sweet story” made all the work behind Grayson the Giraffe Climbs a Mountain feel very real and very fulfilling.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, chatted, picked up a signed copy, or supported in any way! It truly means a lot.

I'm so excited (and a little nervous in the best way!) to share that I've officially been approved as a vendor for the Sunday Artisan Market at Alderney Landing Dartmouth N.S

I'll be there on select Sundays starting this weekend through the end of May.

It's been an incredible experience bringing Grayson the Giraffe Climbs a Mountain from idea to print, and I'm really looking forward to meeting readers, families, and fellow picture book lovers in person.

THE BOOKS ARE HERE!! 🦒📚🏔️

After months of writing, rewrites, sketch revisions, printing stress, and a whole lot of learning as I went…

Grayson the Giraffe Climbs a Mountain is officially real. 💛

This weekend I signed, packed, and delivered the first orders, and I finally got to read the story out loud to my daughter and step-daughter for the first time as a real hardcover book… and I’m not going to lie, it hit me right in the feels. 🥹

I’ve also started receiving the very first feedback and messages from readers, and I’m honestly blown away.

Thank you to everyone who has supported, shared, and cheered this project on — it means more than you know.

Mountain Moment #2 — The Ant Hills 🐜🏔️

Early in Grayson the Giraffe Climbs a Mountain, there’s a training montage made up of little vignette illustrations — Grayson practicing on ant hills, mole hills, grassy hills, and even ski slopes.

It’s one of my favourite moments in the book.

That ant hill scene isn’t random.

On day two of my Kilimanjaro climb, I accidentally stepped into a path of massive (MASSIVE) army ants. Within seconds, they were inside my boot and crawling up my sock.

I froze.

Two of our experienced guides immediately sprang into action — ripping off my boot, pulling ants away by hand, brushing them off as fast as they could. My ankle took the worst of it and was left completely raw. It was painful, overwhelming, and honestly a bit terrifying.

Thankfully, they knew exactly what to do.

That moment stayed with me, not because of the ants (well, sort of because of the ants), but because it an obstacle to overcome on my adventure.

So in Grayson’s world, ants became part of training. A small hill. A practice challenge. One step before the next.

Little moments from real life found their way into the story — quiet callbacks you might miss unless you know where to look.
