Just like the excitement, and anticipation of Christmas, we feel the same way about our seeds! The hunt for rare and unique seeds is only the first part, but the most important part of growing plants and flowers from seed. Growing plants and flowers from seed is becoming increasingly popular and important both for our pocketbooks and wellbeing. Growing food and flowers is more rewarding than many think, and not just for the beauty or food it produces. It brings a renewed sense of balance, and clarity we once knew.
Most plant needs are often required in the quiet hours when all is calm. You, the garden hose or watering can in hand, and the moments of silence to quiet the noise enough to mentally organize the chaos of the day. It is where we could walk back and forth to get water multiple times, and not rush because this isn't a chore, and not try to find 100 ways to make it more efficient either. In these silent moments, we see the sun hitting the water spray just right, or shining through water drops on leaves. We see green grass and trees, we see plants that will produce your families favorite strawberries, tomatoes, and lettuce for salads, even if the kids don't eat it, maybe its not for them, its for you. Simple pleasures!
Oh but the flowers... the ones that grow to bloom for their beauty and uniqueness, ones you suddenly find a child like excitement for, only these, you have grown from seed and created from nothing more than some dirt, water, and good seeds. Good quality seeds determines not only successful germination, but it drastically affects color, size, and even the ability to bloom long after you have put in so much work. The photos that follow these moments taking up much of the space you have on your camera roll, are all little moments you saw beauty and tried to capture it for a time when all the color seemes to have faded into winters blanket of snow. Even winters aren't as hard or as long as they once felt. Each season has its purpose and process, even for those of us who like to push some boundaries and have some healthy competition with mother nature. (She is the best teacher!) The power and importance of all 4 seasons, regardless of the limitations YOU may see, brings us back to the natural cycle of nature, just as nature intended. The great part for those who struggle with the cold winter months, is that there are so many things that need to be done in prep for the next years performance, that you really never feel disconnected from the one thing that can, and always will fulfill you in ways only nature can.
Besides, creating indoor micro environments for growing tropicals during winter is the best therapy, not to mention the added humidity benefits us and them!
