Some places stay with you for a lifetime 📚⚓

When I was young, my dad used to take me to Tanner's Book Store in Sidney. Nearly 40 years later, it remains one of those special places that readers, travellers, and boaters continue to return to.

On a recent walk from Port Sidney Marina, I wandered through the shelves and discovered four books that immediately caught my attention, from hidden shoreline trails and coastal communities to stories of survival and adventure at sea.

A reminder that some of the best cruising discoveries happen after you step off the boat.

One of my favourite day trips from Port Sidney Marina is a quick dinghy ride over to Sidney Spit. Just 2.5 nautical miles away, it feels like you've escaped to another world. ⚓

Long sandy beaches, walking trails, views across Haro Strait, and that wonderful feeling of slowing down for a few hours. Sometimes the best boating adventures aren't the ones that take days to reach. They're the little escapes hiding just around the corner.

38 nautical miles of beautiful Gulf Islands cruising ⚓☀️

From Silva Bay to Port Sidney Marina, we passed some of my favourite places in the Southern Gulf Islands, Pirates Cove, Ruxton Passage, Thetis Island, Maple Bay, Genoa Bay, Canoe Cove, and more.

It was one of those perfect boating days that remind you exactly why you own a boat.

I was thrilled to deliver my very first book order to Page's Marina Lil' Market in Silva Bay, on Gabriola Island.

For years, it's been one of my favourite places to browse for books while cruising the Gulf Islands. The kind of bookstore where you always leave with something you didn't know you needed.

Now Coastal Galley, Aft Deck Society, and Teak Table are sitting on those shelves alongside so many talented local authors.

What an honour.
