Dear HMS friends and family,
Please indulge me today as I share a story with you.
When my husband and I started dating, one of the first people he introduced me to was his friend, Todd Goetz.
Jared said to me, “Todd and his wife, Petra, are the reason I know an amazing marriage is possible. They are the reason I haven’t given up hope or settled in a relationship.”
And then I met Petra. And I watched the way she looked at her husband and I listened to the way Todd spoke to her and I got it. Their marriage lit up everything around them. It was truly spectacular to witness. (If you have had the privilege of knowing Todd and Petra you know what I’m talking about!)
For those of you who haven’t heard, or didn’t know the Goetz family, Todd passed away this week. We lost a truly amazing friend who impacted us greatly and I know so many of you are grieving with us.
I’m sharing this because the Goetz family has given us all an opportunity to honour Todd in a way that will shine a light in our community. Todd made Clinton better, he made everyone around him better, and now there is a scholarship set up that will be awarded annually to a CHSS student who best exemplifies Todd’s characteristics.
In the details of who will receive the scholarship it states: “The recipient of this award has made a positive impact on the CHSS community without expecting anything in return.” And that makes me smile. Because that describes Todd 100% and Clinton has a bright future if more youth can aspire to be like that.
