On the plains of the Maasai Mara, down by Tanzania.

I think one of my first photos on my first dedicated photography safaris. I remember the others in the vehicle looking through side eyes at me. I let my shutter do all the work 📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸📸, and that shutter was not silent!! Get back to camp with hundreds of shots to work through and many x and not many y!!

But cheetahs are always special.

It’s a long weekend here and I feel unusually sedentary. Not to say that I’m being a hermit - I’ve travelled out of my locale 3 times in 2 days (a big thing when your locale is known as the “insular peninsular”.

But

Something is still pulling at me. Yesterday friends flew to Japan, today to Norway, on Monday I was asked if I’d be in Kenya later this month, for a moment there was a chance I’d pop to Vancouver for a Socceroos game, today I was asked about joining a Mala Mala trip and separately suggested I should guide a family on a South African trip.

Despite best efforts to book a last minute all failed, so this post, edited over sundowners within the locale, is a minor compensation to myself.

I went looking for some lost images and found these instead - perfectly timed for the eve of Australian Mothers Day.

The off grid with a kid trip. Three generations + two generations of cousins and all of us visiting a fourth generation.

You can tell my Mum loves a desert. I never used to understand it when I was young. But I remember her at that house in the Cederberg, strong gin in hand, audibly absorbing her surroundings as the sun hit the rocks just so.

From there to an off grid shack on the west coast.
