March Book Club pick is here

This month’s book club read — chosen by our community— is The Elsewhere Express.

It’s about a girl called Raya.
She used to dream about being a songwriter.
Then her brother dies.
And instead of chasing her own life, she quietly starts living his.

(If you’ve ever put your own dreams on hold because life got heavy… you’ll get it.)

One day she’s on the subway — normal, tired, probably in her own head — and suddenly she’s swept onto this mysterious train called the Elsewhere Express.

The train only appears to people whose lives have drifted off course.

On board, there are whimsical carriages and dreamy spaces and a sweet, artistic boy called Q who’s also trying to figure himself out.

But it’s not just cozy vibes.
There’s dark magic.
There’s danger.
And she has to actually face her grief instead of outrunning it.

At its heart, this book is about:
🧡 feeling lost
🧡 carrying grief quietly
🧡 wondering who you are now
🧡 and maybe letting yourself want something again

⚠️ trigger warnings: grief, death of a loved one, emotional trauma, mild fantasy peril, darker magical elements.

When we’re choosing what goes into Book Box, it’s never random. We’re always thinking about your moment — the one where you finally sit down, open your book, and let everything else go quiet for a bit.

That’s why we’re so excited to be featuring Known Stranger.

They make genuinely lovely drinks — cosy hot teas, refreshing iced teas, and fun, sparkling prebiotic sips — and they all belong next to a good book.

Supporting Aussie brands we truly love is a huge part of Book Box, and we can’t wait for you to discover this one inside your next box 🧡

Tell us — what are you reaching for first… hot tea or something chilled?

Something I learned way too late is that not everything that looks like growth is actually progress.

For a long time, I chased what looked right on paper.

More launches.
More urgency.
More noise.

But every time we sped things up, something quietly slipped away:

the care, the calm the feeling that each box was made for someone, not just shipped to someone.

I didn’t start Book Box to build something impressive.

I started it because books were the one place life slowed down.

So we made a choice that doesn’t always make sense online:

We protect the pace.
We limit box numbers.
We curate instead of automate everything.

We choose consistency over chaos.

It means we don’t do everything.

But what we do, we do properly.

If you’ve ever felt like reading used to be your escape — and now even that feels rushed —

this is your reminder: You’re not behind.

You’re just craving something slower. And that’s allowed. 🧡
