Kats Rack, by Aussie Racks

Im excited to show you my revised prototype (version 3) just as production commences today.

This is it. Kats Rack! This is my big rack.

Its designed to be a display rack to show off you prized collection of vintage & collectable skateboards so the graphic art side can be beautifully displayed in your home. Ive designed the dimensions to maximise & show off the beautiful artwork & graphics of each deck. This is the rack for any collector.

Its a modern contemporary design to fit in with modern decor, to be a room feature so your boards can be viewed more as a gallery rather than garage storage.

They are CNC precision cut using this stunning natural Falcata timber ply, an Italian poplar, and made and manufactured right here on the Sunshine Coast, Australia.

The rack is 1.95 metres high (6.4ft) and holds up to 11 complete boards, being 7 at the front, a hero board at the top, and depending on positioning of the rack, an additional 3 at the rear.

The timber is strong but very light, total rack is under 7kg (13 pounds), and Ive made so many little design features to improve on big brand name racks that just didn't work for my own boards.

NO screws! my rack just snaps together tight without needing any tools or screws. I spend days with designers to create and use a strong joint and sturdy rack. It comes pre drilled plus screws if you choose to secure it however the rack is incredibly stable without the use of any screws. Mums & dads friendly, easy assembly, no instructions needed.

I've shaped a skirting board recess allowing the back to be flush against a wall, and you have the option to fix the rear supporting rails/s to the wall for added security & stability. Having a flush back, two racks can be positioned back to back in the right room or for retail shop usage.

Circular cutouts on the rack sides for easy carrying when fully assembled, and Ive designed the dimensions to accomodate complete longboards fitted with risers, big wheels, and large trucks so they can be positioned in and out of slots without collision.

And the slots have been widened to suit decks with the wildest concave, and even allows scooter poles to be racked.

Shipped Australia wide, and available for $275 (approx $200USD). International shipping available on request.

I have several proto racks here I will sell cheaper of all slightly different design, contact me if interested.

Smaller, taller, and Esk8 versions also coming soon. Standby.

Happy skating!

Cheers
Kat

A proto of the new joint system Im trialling for the new version racks. The goal is to have a rack requiring no screws or tools, simply click together and still be strong and stable.

This is a base section of the rack. This joint is solid and tight, so currently trialling with a full tall rack and 12 complete boards. 🤞

Dec 2020:

Hi guys. I’ve been working on a proto longboard rack. I’ll have 10 available shortly with delivery Australia wide.

Its been really hard trying to find a good, affordable, rack throughout Australia. And one that actually works for my longboards. Wanting & needing something that would have clearance for my crazy setups, displaying the graphics, and not damage the decks. Has not been easy so decided to go it alone and produce what I think would work best for me being most functional and best display, and will make a few more to test marketplace. Ive spent alot of time comparing shop racks and found this design to work best.

I'll be using a 16mm cnc’d marine ply and holds 18 complete boards, even with risers and large wheels. Ive loaded the test rack above with my boards to see how it easily accommodates typical complete setups. Will display 9 boards at the front and then additional vertical 1 at the very top at 90 degrees like a hero deck. It is just peeping at the top there but updated design will be higher mount so more visible. Its a freestanding rack and can be placed next to a wall.

This one photographed has rear slots which holds 8 more at the back. So total is 18 if you have a large space and can position the rack to access both sides. Its 2200mm high so it should fit in most homes/bedrooms.

Many others Ive seen are made of Mdf or chipboard, thinner and less stable. I wanted minimum movement to avoid decks being marked/scratched and also many have unsuitable dimensions as designers didn't consider complete longboards.

The one pictured above, I have screwed horizontal support panels but the updated design has panels that simply lock together with cross beams and grooves to snap together without requiring any hardware or tools to assemble. And still sturdy. The bottom can be used as a wheel tray/storage.

The angle of the rack slots is much steeper than other racks Ive seen, simply to have the deck art facing viewer to show off those decks. The final outer finish is not black, it will be a natural beech timber matt finish.

Let me know what you think
