THE COLLECTOR BEHIND VINTAGE WHIMSY EVENT HIRE 🌸
Hi, I’m Lea and I have been collecting retro, vintage and quirky items for as long as I can remember. I’ve always loved wondering about a piece’s back story and enjoyed the character they bring to a table.
If I’m honest, I’ve never found it easy to walk past a gorgeous teacup, coloured water jug set or a vegetable shaped piece of crockery!
And almost four years ago, I decided to start sharing my collection with others by offering it for hire as a little side hustle.
Since then, I have loved seeing these treasures become part of high teas, for bridal and baby showers, birthdays and other special celebrations across the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane.
More recently Vintage Whimsy has become busier, with many interesting requests for contributing some of our vintage items as part of weddings and events.
And since I have now taken over half of our house as storage and dragged my husband on this crazy journey I thought it was about time that I share a little more of the collection, the stories behind the pieces, styling ideas and a little of what happens behind the scenes on our social media.

OUR FIRST RETRO MICRO-WEDDING

On the Sunshine Coast we are totally spoilt for wedding locations with so many wonderful venues, including https://thelakehousefolk.com/ that are just perfect for our DIY microwedding clients.

🌻 When I met our most recent bride Jenai I was so excited to be able to assist with creating her tableware vision for 25 with a retro vibe of browns and yellows.

🍂 Yes we have a fabulous range of retro stoneware dinner and entree plates and funky cutlery, so we were definitely a match made in heaven.

GORGEOUS HIGH TEA SETTINGS FOR 300!
Our amzing clients Event Society have put together the Vintage Morning Tea as part of the Winton 150 celebrations this morning.
This was our contribution to the event, tons and tons of boxes and crates full to capacity and packed as safely as possible then delivered to Brisbane last Friday - to be transported the 1430kms for the big celebration.

ALL THE CRINOLINE LADIES!
So excited - today we rescued these 25 beautiful 'Crinoline' ladies from living in an op shop! These Empire Ware yellow crinoline ladies are just one design of many that were popular from the 1930s when they were produced. They will now be able to join the rest of my mismatched Crinoline ladies collection to become a very glamourous crockery family!!

TEA FROM A TENNIS SET ANYONE?
These little beauties with their larger than normal saucer or smaller than normal side plate allow you to hold your tea and your little sweet treats, while you're standing and chatting!!
Apparently afternoon tea was commonly served at Wimbledon and the smaller plate that would hold a cup was very popular thus the name 'tennis set'.
I have a few but didn't think I would have enough to create a whole set to hire out.
So when I came across a lady selling 5 recently they just had to be mine! Now on the lookout for MORE!
I love how great they look with my modern Cristina Re teapot as well.
And I ask you - who would want to play tennis and sweat when you can look gorgeous, sip tea and hang out with your gals and chat?

MAD HATTERS!
To recognise and reward Garden Club members’ efforts in preparing and hosting the 2023 Spring Fair, the group’s October meeting became a special celebration. Members donned crazy hats, many of which incorporated floral themes. Combined with beautiful mad hatter themed floral arrangements for the tables and a quirky selection of crockery provided by Vintage Whimsy - Crockery Hire, a fine celebration was held at the Old Witta School.

We went to the gorgeous Spicers Clovelly Estate at Montville today!
The lovely team there recently hired all of our very glamourous Cristina Re crockery for their Mother's Day celebrations, and today we got to experience first hand just how special their Taittinger High Tea is.

A CORONATION HIGH TEA ANYONE?
What better way could there be to mark the occasion of King Charles' coronation than a lovely 'regal' high tea?
I am going to be giving the coronation quiche recipe a bit of a trial run this weekend to make sure I have it just right for the big day!
If it's a success I will report back, if it's a disaster I won't be letting on!

❤️💛CROCKERY LOVE 💛❤️
These little beauties enjoyed their outing to Brisbane this weekend to feature in my very special Uncle's 80th birthday celebrations.
Royal Albert - Old Country Roses was my much-loved nanna's favourite china, sadly she is no longer here with us but it was lovely to be able to have her small but precious collection joined by some of mine for a high tea with family and friends.
Having nanna's crockery on the table reminded me of spending time with her and the love she had for all of us grandkids.
I like knowing that Vintage Whimsy crockery will be part of so many more happy and love filled events for many other families in the future.

SPREADING THE GREEN & GLAMOUROUS MESSAGE
We have been super busy the last three days at the fabulous Maleny Eco Creative Festival !! Along with our beautiful Vintage Whimsy - Crockery Hire display we also previewed our latest venture - Vintage Whimsy - Reloved Treasures.
While we have been out sourcing lovely items for our hire business we have also accumulated quite a lot of quirky vintage and retro items that we plan to sell, mostly on Facebook Marketplace, Ebay and Etsy, so we also took some of them along on the weekend.

CROCKERY CHRISTMAS AT OUR PLACE
This morning we awoke to find a box full of lovely bone china tea cups, saucers and cake plates had been left for us by a generous friend. We are always happy to adopt crockery that is no longer required and to take care of it. With local groups already planning their 'Biggest Morning Tea' events for May I am sure these beauties will come in handy!

The photos in this post were from a recent high tea I hosted for an awesome group of passionate local ladies (and our token fella Sunshine Coast Foodie Martin Duncan) who love to promote produce, food, agriculture and Glasshouse Country.
It is great to have a cheer squad who encourage and promote each other and of course are happy to cook a tasty treat and share it, for what started out being a photo shoot - but turned into a absolutely fun, fab, sharing day!
