WE ARE HIRING: Sawmill Operator
We are seeking an experienced Head Sawmiller / Sawmill Operator to lead daily milling operations in a small, practical, production-focused sawmill environment. Schulte Sawmill is a botique, low volume high quality Ironbark Sawmill, producing green and dry lumber as well as various Ironbark moulded profiles.
This is a hands-on role manual role suited to someone who enjoys cutting beuatiful timber, running machines, solving problems on the fly, and taking ownership of output quality and workflow. You’ll be responsible for operating and overseeing milling, maintaining equipment, and ensuring safe, efficient production.
About the role
You will:
-Operate and manage daily sawmilling operations
-Break down logs accurately and efficiently for maximum recovery
-Set up, adjust, and maintain milling equipment
-Perform routine servicing and troubleshooting
-Maintain quality control of finished timber
-Coordinate workflow and prioritise jobs
-Follow and uphold safe work practices
-Work independently with minimal supervision
Essential skills & experience
-Proven experience operating sawmills or portable mills
-Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
-Ability to work physically outdoors in a rural environment
-Good judgement with timber grading and recovery
-Reliable, self-directed, and practical mindset
-Strong and fit for manual labour
Highly desirable
-Lucas Mill experience
-Kara Sawmill experience
-Moulding and dressing operations (weinig 6 and 8 spindle moulders)
-Kiln Experience
-Machinery maintenance or mechanical trade background
-Forklift, bobcat or wheel loader ticket/experience
-Leadership or team supervision experience
