Pink Up Mudgee

Pink Up Mudgee Mudgee turns PINK in support of the McGrath Foundation nurses caring for all cancers in October! October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

During the month - in conjuction with businesses and organisations we conduct functions raising funds and awareness for our nurses. 🌸🌸🌸 This year, approximately 20,640 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia—an average of 57 people every day. The statistics are sobering: 1 in 7 women and 1 in 555 men will face a breast cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. When that happens, McGrath

Breast Care Nurses are there to provide essential support every step of the way. McGrath Breast Care Nurses offer invaluable physical, psychological, and emotional support to families experiencing breast cancer, from diagnosis through treatment. This support is available free of charge and can be accessed through self-referral. Since mid-2009, the McGrath Breast Care Nurse in Mudgee has provided free support to over 200 families in our area, guiding them through their breast cancer journey. Throughout October, Mudgee will once again turn pink to raise awareness of breast cancer in our community. Mudgee was the first place in Australia to start the Pink Up Your Town initiative. Supported by the Mid-Western Region Council and the McGrath Foundation, our Pink Committee is coordinating this community-wide event. To make a donation online, please visit: pinkupmudgee.com.au

Our goal is to engage the entire community in this month-long spectacle, which we hope will attract national media attention. We aim to turn as many shop fronts pink as possible, light up the main street in pink, and host events like pink races, pink tennis, pink lawn bowls, pink touch football, and pink cricket. In addition to raising awareness, Pink Up Mudgee is committed to raising much-needed funds for the McGrath Foundation, helping to place McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities across Australia. How can you get involved? Whether it’s turning your shopfront pink, having your sports team wear pink, hosting a pink event, dyeing your hair pink, wearing pink to work, organizing a school event, or coming up with your own creative idea—let’s hear it! Matt was just 34 when his life changed in an instant.

“I felt really ill at work and asked a mate to call an ambulance, shortly after I had a seizure,” Matt recalls.

When he woke up, doctors told him he had a brain tumour.

With a young family and months of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy ahead, everything suddenly felt uncertain.

Then Matt met McGrath Cancer Care Nurse, Jordan.

“Jordan has been a blessing” Matt says. 💗

Yesterday some of our exec committee from Mudgee and Gulgong had lunch with the beautiful Bettina our contact person at the McGrath Foundation.

We are super excited to have Bettina as our ‘go to’ person and even more excited to be busily planning all our pink activities for October. This girl is certainly in for a ride of a lifetime looking after all our wonderful pink towns. 🌸🌸🩷🩷

When Dan was diagnosed with cancer, everything suddenly felt overwhelming for him and his wife, Simone. Appointments, decisions, different specialists - they didn’t know where to start.

Months later, while watching The Pink Test, they learned the McGrath Foundation was expanding its care to all cancers.

When Dan’s cancer returned, he was connected with his McGrath Cancer Care Nurse, Kelly.

“The difference in care was honestly, incredible. I don’t know how to describe it, words fail me, it’s a game changer. In fact, that doesn’t even feel big enough, it’s life changing.” Dan says.

Kelly helped guide them, coordinate care, and support them as a family, so in a moment that felt uncertain, they weren’t alone anymore.

That’s how care changes lives. 💗
