Athara Bee Light no longer operates as a beeswax candle retailer or wholesaler.

I loved making candles, enjoying meeting my customers and sharing in the delight of the way beeswax makes the most amazing candles.

Unfortunately my business model wasn't sustainable.

I'm playing with the idea of running beeswax candle workshops and sharing my knowledge with others.

Watch this space..
And many thanks for all of you who have supported my small business over the years.
Love and Light,
Bienne

Due to unforeseen circumstances I won't be making any candles or doing any retail or wholesale sales in the near future. I hope this is temporary and that I get back to the candle making workshop soon. Thanks for all your patience and may the light shine within us during the growing darker days of Autumn.
Take care,
Bienne and family

A little bit of me at the fab Freo Farmers Market last Sunday. Oh and we won some delish Olive Oil harvested by White Gum Valley Community Orchard! Bought some amazing organic veggies, yummy coffee and juices. Great vibe, amazing people. Looking forward to getting there in the New Year when the weather cools a little!

Freo Farmers Market shared a post on Instagram: "A bit of info on some of our great stalls at the market today! Open til 12 πŸ˜†". Follow their account to see 358 posts.

Last stall for the year will be this Sunday! I will be taking a break from the wax melter until February next year! My family deserve a present 🎁 Mum over the holiday break and my girls have been so patient with me getting them out of bed early on the weekend for stalls and hubby a great support with the heavy haulage work.
Any remaining stock will be available to buy direct (collect or post) until the 19th December. I am so looking forward to the rest and looking towards the bush and the beach down South for some inspiring candles and other goodies next year.

ALDI Australia , BIG W and Bunnings Warehouse Australia and other corporations have caught the bee buzz and are selling insect hotels for Christmas.

For the general public to be spending more time in their garden, often as a family, looking at what invertebrates live there, and to be interested in providing habitat for native bees, or even being aware of them, this is a positive big step. However, according to native bee scientist native Kit Prendergast, who has been researching bee hotels, most of these store-bought bee hotel designs are terrible and can do more harm than good.

β€œThey are too shallow, the holes too large, they use poor materials, and have useless compartments. There is also a risk that imported wood has been fumigated with insecticides. They could be at best not be used by bees, or at worse represent death traps for any bees that do use them.”

To learn what makes a good hotel, how to make one, and other evidence-based information on native bees and how we can help them, you can refer to Creating a Haven for Native Bees , a book by native bee scientist Kit Prendergast.
