Goals don’t always look like paperwork.

Sometimes they look like a basket of freshly picked oranges.

A guitar brought along because music creates connection.

Choosing where to stop for coffee.

Trying something unfamiliar.

Spending time outdoors, participating in the community or rediscovering an interest that still brings purpose.

Documentation matters. It helps record progress, identify what is working and demonstrate how supports connect with a participant’s goals.

But the outcome does not happen on the form.

It happens in everyday life.

At Custom Care & Accommodation, we are strengthening how activities are planned, delivered and documented—so they are not simply outings that fill time.

They are opportunities to build confidence, maintain skills, exercise choice and create genuine moments of achievement.

That is what capacity building can look like.

That is the positive NDIS story worth sharing.

A vacancy is a room.

A home is the right match.

Supported accommodation should never begin with filling an empty bed. It should begin with understanding the person.

Who are they?

What routines help them feel settled?

What brings meaning to their day?

What environment will support their independence, identity and sense of belonging?

For a person living with dementia, the right match matters deeply. Familiarity, compatible housemates, consistent staff approaches and a home shaped around the person can make an enormous difference to everyday life.

Custom Care & Accommodation currently has capacity to welcome new participants across Maitland, Newcastle and the Hunter region.

But our focus is not filling vacancies quickly.

We take the time to consider each person’s support needs, routines, goals, personality and compatibility with the home.

Because providing a room is not enough.

The goal is to create somewhere a person can genuinely belong.

Quality shouldn’t change with the roster.

People receiving disability support should not have to start again every time a different worker arrives.

They should not have to repeatedly explain their routines, communication, preferences or what helps them feel safe and understood.

Strong support is not built around one exceptional worker.

It is built by an organisation that makes good practice consistent through clear support plans, meaningful handovers, thoughtful matching, ongoing training, supervision and accountability.

For a person living with dementia, that consistency matters deeply. Familiar routines and informed responses can reduce uncertainty, protect dignity and help the person remain connected to everyday life.

At Custom Care & Accommodation, we are strengthening the systems behind every shift so quality support is not left to chance.

Different people may be rostered.

The standard should remain the same.

Dementia doesn’t erase the person.

It doesn’t erase a lifetime of experience.

It doesn’t erase personality, humour, preferences, relationships or the need to feel useful, heard and valued.

Yet too often, a diagnosis becomes the first and sometimes only thing people see.

Quality dementia support begins when we look beyond the diagnosis.

It means taking time to understand the person’s history, routines, communication and sense of identity. It means recognising that behaviour may be communication and creating support around familiarity, dignity, choice and meaningful participation.

At Custom Care & Accommodation, we don’t believe people living with dementia should simply be kept safe and occupied.

They should be supported to remain connected to who they are.

Because dementia may change how a person experiences the world but it never removes their personhood.

Help us change the conversation.

The NDIS is often discussed in budgets, line items and processes.

But its real value is found in what those supports make possible.

A person having greater choice in how their day unfolds.

Maintaining skills and building confidence.

Feeling secure in a home that reflects who they are.

Connecting with their community, developing relationships and participating in something meaningful.

Funding creates opportunity. Quality support turns that opportunity into everyday life.

At Custom Care & Accommodation, we want to help change the conversation around the NDIS.

It is more than a system to navigate. When support is thoughtful, consistent and person-led, the NDIS can create greater independence, dignity, connection and belonging.

That is the outcome worth talking about.

🌿 Would you be interested in a free outdoor dementia and carer catch-up in the Maitland area?

Custom Care & Accommodation is exploring the idea of starting a relaxed, outdoor social catch-up for people living with dementia and their carers.

The idea is simple:

🧺 Bring your own morning tea or lunch
☕ Bring a drink and enjoy the outdoors
🤝 Meet other people living with dementia and their carers
💬 Share conversation, experiences and companionship
🎶 Enjoy optional, relaxed activities with no pressure to participate

This would be completely free to attend. It would not be a formal presentation, support service or sales event—just an inclusive and welcoming opportunity for people to spend time together in a dementia-friendly environment.

People living with dementia would attend with their carer or support person, who would remain responsible for their individual care, supervision and dietary requirements.

At this stage, we are simply trying to find out whether there is enough local interest before confirming a location, date or regular schedule.

If this is something you may be interested in, please send our page a private message with the words OUTDOOR CATCH-UP.

Please also let us know:

• Which area would suit you best—Maitland, East Maitland, Gillieston Heights or Morpeth
• Whether a weekday morning would suit
• How many people would likely attend

There is no obligation, and no personal medical information is required.

Please share this post so we can find out whether this is something people living with dementia and carers across Maitland would value. 💚

An activity is not meaningful simply because it fills an hour.

Real capacity building begins with understanding the person their history, interests, routines, strengths and the skills they want to maintain or develop.

It may involve baking a familiar recipe, tending a garden, caring for animals, planning a family visit, making everyday choices or participating in decisions at home.

For someone living with dementia, meaningful activity should connect with who they have been, what matters to them and what helps them experience purpose, familiarity and success.

The goal is not to keep people busy.

It is to support identity, confidence, choice, connection and participation in everyday life.

At Custom Care & Accommodation, we are strengthening how activities are planned and connected to each participant’s individual goals.

Because a full calendar is not the same as a meaningful life.

A stronger direction. A higher standard.

Custom Care & Accommodation is entering an important new chapter.

We are strengthening our systems, developing our workforce and shaping our services around dementia-specific, person-led support.

For us, this means understanding the whole person not simply their diagnosis. It means recognising behaviour as communication, respecting established routines, creating meaningful days and working closely with families and professionals.

We also want to help change the conversation around the NDIS.

Too often, the public discussion focuses only on what is going wrong. We want to demonstrate what is possible when support is delivered with knowledge, consistency and purpose.

CCA is building a stronger business with clearer standards, deeper expertise and capacity to welcome new participants who are the right fit for our services.

This is more than a change in direction. It is our commitment to delivering a higher standard of support.

If you are looking for dementia-specific or person-led support across Maitland, Newcastle or the Hunter region, we welcome a confidential conversation.

🌿 BEFORE & AFTER | CUSTOM CARE LAWN & MAINTENANCE 🌿

What a transformation!

Our Lawn & Maintenance team turned these untidy, hard-to-maintain areas into clean, practical spaces using decorative black pebbles and natural stepping stones.

The finished result is tidy, low maintenance and completely refreshes the outdoor space. A fantastic job by the team! 👏
