🐾 CAN YOU LEND A HELPING PAW? 🐾

Today one of our admin Tracey was alerted to an injured cat that had been seen on a home security camera last night. The very emaciated cat was unable to move his back legs and was dragging himself around. As she always does, Tracey dropped everything to rescue this beautiful boy. Originally we had thought he was an elderly cat however on arrival Tracey noticed that he was actually only around 12 months old.

He was immediately rushed to an emergency vet, where it was found that he was unable to move his hind legs and had no deep pain sensation. Thankfully on X-ray, the vet team found no fractures in his spine or hips, however they did find an area in his tail that had some previous trauma that was trying to heal. This injury is commonly knows as a ‘tail pull injury’ and is usually caused by a cat getting stuck on a fence, attacked by a dog or having their tailed pulled by a human.

Unfortunately his tail pull injury is severe, so there is a chance he may never recover the use of his legs. However he does appear to be able to urinate on his own, so there is still hope that he can regain the nerve function in his legs!

This kitty reminded us so much of our special Cleo-Catra (you can see her story on both our insta and Facebook) that we had to give him a chance to thrive just like her! We also asked her foster mum Katie to take on this little boy to give him the best care possible. Katie decided to name this special boy Oscar, which means ‘divine strength’ or ‘spear of the gods.’

Oscar is going to his foster home on strong pain relief and will need around the clock monitoring, including flipping him to ensure he doesn’t develop pressure sores and monitoring his urine output. Little Oscar will have a review at one of our local vets.

If you can donate towards Oscar’s care and other kitties like him, we would be forever grateful.

🤎🧡 MEET JAFFA & SKITTLES 🧡🤎

Hi, I’m Jaffa and this is my sister Skittles. We came into care after hiding away when our mum and siblings were taken into care. We were only 7 weeks old when we were brought into care, so we hope you’ll understand that we will need some time, love and patience to learn what a loving home is. Will you be the one to show us what fur-ever happiness is?

Nature
Skittles and I are both very similar in who we are. Why of course, we are brother and sister! We find comfort in each other; we sleep together, groom each other, eat together and play together. You’ll never find us far apart. We are both very shy and slightly scared still but with time, and no sudden or loud movements or noises we have learnt to enjoy playing with our Foster Mum, even though it takes a little bit of encouragement every time.

Companions (Children, Cats & Dogs)
We have met many humans, big and small and while we are scared of them and don’t yet like to be patted or held, once we find our fur-ever home, our purr-fect little hearts are sure to take the lead and you’ll never imagine your home without us again!

We have never been without each other and are always playing or curled up together so we’d love to stay together fur-ever but if we can’t, a cat friend is important so we never have to feel alone again. Our Foster Mum has never seen us interact with dogs or other cats so she says she doesn’t know if we would be OK or not, but as we’re still very young we might be fine with a slow introduction.

Likes / Dislikes
We really enjoy play time! If you give us a little time when you come to us, we will play chase with the toys with you throwing them around but we will also happily play with each other chasing up the big scratching towers, playing with our ‘3 rings with balls’ and our ‘cat jungle gym’ from Kmart. I’m the fastest runner of course but shh, don’t tell my sister. If we can run, catch and climb together we are pretty happy.

When it’s our meal time, we have learnt to get our Foster Mum’s attention by either giving ‘that’ look while sitting next to our bowl or if you are dishing up our food you’ll soon see us realise and be sat there ready with our best manners. We aren’t a fan of eating if you’re too close yet but again, with time and trust, we will be eating out of your hands (figuratively)! We currently love boiled chicken mince mixed with Royal Canin Baby Cat Mousse but as we get older we will get to try new things! We love our biscuits to graze on throughout the day too. If you really want to earn brownie points with us, the Dine Chicken Creamy Treats are delicious! We remember that being our first taste of comfort when we came to our foster home. Oh! We are pro’s at using our ‘Trouble & Trix Natural Pellets’ in our litter box too!

Personal space is also important at the moment as sudden movements or getting too close can result in a scared hiss. But we don’t mean it in a mean way! This won’t be forever, we need to find our way to trust, be in comfort and know just how loved and safe we are. We don’t like loud sudden movements and if scared, we are very good at hiding.

Our PURR-fect home would be somewhere indoors, together or with a furry friend to play with. A cat run could also be fun for the summer days so we can enjoy that sunshine and fresh warm air safely. We don’t like to be alone, being an only cat in a home would make us really sad. We’d also like a home with lots of toys, lots of attention and lots of love pawlease!
