We love using traditional methods and exploring new products to ensure that your piece is absolutely perfect for your outfit.

Since undertaking a series of millinery short courses years ago, Rosey and Nell have been developing their passion for making unique, on-trend and well made headwear. You get 2 creative minds which means double the ideas! If you fall in love with something, most items you see can be recreated; or you can arrange a consultation appointment to kick off the design process. We will also be creating some seasonal ready-to-wear collections so keep your eyes out for their release!

MICRO COLLECTION 02: LUCKY DUCK

You know the drill. Thread & Trouble micro collections are extremely limited runs of beaded tees, with a never to be repeated design. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.

This month, a sassy lil duck in jewel tones. She’s gonna be great for autumn/winter with denim and a great coat.

Hand crafted in Kalgoorlie WA using quality Japanese beads.

PROGRESS
A couple of hours of tambour embroidery progress…it doesn’t look like much but it equals approximately 1 extended edition of Lord of the Rings movie in case you were wondering.

It has been a minute between posts and also new pieces, so here you go! One of each
I hand stitched each every little sequin on these petals leaves. They’re wired and then backed in this fab metallic lamé fabric and constructed into a big beautiful shiny magnolia.
Deceptively light to wear with so much colour variation every time you move your head

It’s important to us to make headpieces that are as comfortable or easy to wear as possible. It’s not always achievable, but it’s another reason we love these embroidered flower pieces- they’re light as a feather and so comfy you can almost forget they’re on your head.

One of a kind little floating blue posy with ice blue floating bow. All the elements are wired so you can manipulate them into place.

I spent this Easter weekend cooking, washing, knitting a scarf that I’ve been working on since I bought the yarn in New York in 2018, and finishing these bloody magic blue blooms for my next embroidery headpiece.

Blooms will be coming a headpiece near you very very soon. They’re all hand stitched by me and my tambour hook, fully wired, and came together to make the sweetest little posy you ever did see.

As always, they’re completely one of a kind…you won’t be finding these guys anywhere else! There’s just one more element to add and then I can show you the completed piece. Stay tuned ❤️

~ Changes to Maker Millinery ~

The name Maker Millinery might have changed, but it’s still the same old Nell!

As I’m sure you all noticed, I poured a heap of time into upskilling in certain areas; especially couture embroidery and embellishment. The name Maker Millinery doesn’t really reflect the work that I do or the pieces that I make so….join me in welcoming Thread & Petal!
I’m really leaning into the slow intuitive part or creating embroidered pieces. Every little stitch will be sewn by me so when I say a piece is a one of a kind, it’s truly a one of a kind. There will still be beautiful millinery pieces right here, that will focus on embroidery and embellishment. My brain is bursting with creative ideas for the cutest accessories!

If you’re a Kalgoorlie girlie, the petals won’t only be stitched. I’ll be offering cottage style posies and jars of flowers grown by me right here in Kal. Keep your eyes out for those 😉

In case you haven’t heard, we had a big ol blackout in Kalgoorlie. A classic case of lemons into lemonade, I used the daylight hours making pretty petals for your pretty head! I used the nighttime hours wondering how on earth anyone survived here before aircon.

We’ve got some hibiscus petals and some stylised blue daisy petals and leaves. Final flowers and millinery pieces to follow soon.

Kal folks, how did you spend your blackout?

A moment for the rose 🌹

Feminine but strong, beautiful but wild, classic but edgy…all the things about one little floating rose.

All 14 petals and 2 leaves were lovingly hand-stitched by me over the last few weeks. Each one takes about an hour to complete. She’s a true one of a kind, a headpiece that’s minimal but packs plenty of punch.
