Telstra will give 12,000 free mobile phones to customers in “difficult situations” to help them transition to the 4G network, after fears vulnerable people would be unable to contact emergency services when the 3G network shuts down.

Telstra said the phones would be given to priority assistance customers who may require “external support transition” when the network shuts down on August 31.

The shutdown was delayed over fears some customers still connected to the 20-year-old network would be left without the ability to make emergency calls.

Telstra says it will be contacting there customers that are eligible for the free device & give assistance & help to set them up.

South Australians will soon be able to ride e-scooters on public roads without a special licence or registration, under proposed legislation.

The state government plans to allow e-scooters on footpaths, bike lanes, and roads that have a speed limit of up to 50 km/h.

Riders will be limited to 25 km/h on roads, bike lanes, and paths, while the maximum speed on footpaths and shared paths with pedestrians will be 15 km/h.

Riders would need to be aged 16 and older to ride unsupervised.
