A cool winter air mass is moving over southern Australia after a prolonged period of above average temperatures through the central and eastern Australia last week.

Meanwhile, a strong high pressure system is moving across the Great Australian Bight, extending a ridge over much of the continent.

As a result, numerous locations in South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania have observed their coolest nighttime temperatures of the year. This includes Adelaide which saw 4.0 °C and Launceston which saw -1.7 °C.

Light showers were also observed across much of south-eastern Australia on Saturday, with moderate falls through eastern Victoria and southern New South Wales with the passage of a trough.

Some of the highest rainfall totals in the 24 hours to 9am AEST Sunday included:
• 37 mm at Bullumwaal, Vic
• 37 mm at Balook, Vic
• 24 mm at Mt Moornapa, Vic
• 33 mm at Reeves K**b, Vic
• 29 mm at Bairnsdale Airport, Vic
• 27 mm at Mt Tassie, Vic
• 20 mm at Cowra, NSW
• 16 mm at Tooma Dam, NSW

Scattered showers will continue today through eastern Victoria as well as the south coast and southern ranges of NSW, before mostly easing overnight.

A temporary closure of the Glenelg tram line is required to facilitate essential finishing work for the Tram Grade Separation Projects.

This work cannot be completed while the tram line is operating.

The tram line will be closed between South Terrace and Moseley Square for 16 days, from Saturday, 4 July to Sunday, 19 July. City tram services will still be operating during the closure.

Adelaide Metro substitute buses will replace trams along the Glenelg line and will service every stop, including Jetty Road, during the closure. There will also be some changes to the frequency of tram services in the CBD. 🚍

All tram services will resume from first service on Monday, 20 July.🚊

WEATHER ALERT: Wild weather is set to sweep across parts of South Australia with authorities issuing a severe weather warning for damaging winds.

BoM: “A strong cold front will sweep across the state tomorrow bringing isolated damaging wind gusts to much of the state.

A deep low pressure system will follow later tomorrow bringing a broader damaging wind risk over western parts of the state, extending eastwards to the Adelaide region, central, and southeastern parts during Monday evening as the low passes to the south of Adelaide overnight.

Damaging wind gusts to 90 km/h are possible across western and central parts of the state from late tomorrow morning, affecting Adelaide and the Mt Lofty Ranges from the early afternoon.

Damaging winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h with gusts to 100 km/h become likely about the West Coast, Eyre Peninsula and Yorke Peninsula during Monday afternoon, extending to the remainder of the warning area, including Adelaide and the southeast, during tomorrow evening.

Damaging winds are expected to ease over coastal and low lying areas, including Adelaide, during Tuesday morning, and then gradually ease over the Flinders Ranges and Mt Lofty Ranges during Tuesday afternoon and evening. Locations which may be affected include Adelaide, Port Lincoln, Strathalbyn, Maitland, Whyalla, Mount Gambier, Ceduna and Port Augusta.”

Our Field Services team have been busy preparing for the severe weather expected over the coming days.

With forecast strong winds, heavy rain and high tides, our team has been focusing on known stormwater hotspots and priority areas across the network, checking and clearing where required to help keep drainage flowing.

Road surfacing works at the Gordon / Partridge Streets intersection in Glenelg will be temporarily paused to ensure safety and maintain the quality of the road surface. Work will then resume under an updated program, with additional measures included some night works, to complete work at the intersection.
