A cool winter air mass is moving over southern Australia after a prolonged period of above average temperatures through the central and eastern Australia last week.
Meanwhile, a strong high pressure system is moving across the Great Australian Bight, extending a ridge over much of the continent.
As a result, numerous locations in South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania have observed their coolest nighttime temperatures of the year. This includes Adelaide which saw 4.0 °C and Launceston which saw -1.7 °C.
Light showers were also observed across much of south-eastern Australia on Saturday, with moderate falls through eastern Victoria and southern New South Wales with the passage of a trough.
Some of the highest rainfall totals in the 24 hours to 9am AEST Sunday included:
• 37 mm at Bullumwaal, Vic
• 37 mm at Balook, Vic
• 24 mm at Mt Moornapa, Vic
• 33 mm at Reeves K**b, Vic
• 29 mm at Bairnsdale Airport, Vic
• 27 mm at Mt Tassie, Vic
• 20 mm at Cowra, NSW
• 16 mm at Tooma Dam, NSW
Scattered showers will continue today through eastern Victoria as well as the south coast and southern ranges of NSW, before mostly easing overnight.
