Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada
Amir al-Mu’minin
Islamic Emi__rate of Afghanistan
March 12, 2026
Honorable Amir,
We, the family of Dennis Coyle, approach you with hearts full of hope, inspired by the noble tradition of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in showing mercy and compassion to prisoners during the blessed days of Eid al-Fitr. Each year, on this occasion, you open the doors of freedom to many, thereby demonstrating the spirit of compassion and justice. With great humility, we respectfully ask that this same spirit of mercy be extended to our dear brother, Dennis Coyle, and that he be released before the upcoming Eid al-Fitr so that we may once again see our beloved brother and son.
For nearly twenty years, Dennis has held a deep affection for Afghanistan in his heart. Through tireless efforts to promote and develop the Pashto language and other minority languages, he has sought to pay tribute to Afghanistan and honor its beauty and traditions. He is someone who appreciates the grandeur of your country’s mountains, rivers, and cultural heritage, and he has always tried to understand and serve it. We ask for your mercy and trust in your wisdom to consider the sincere intentions of his heart. We hope he will be treated with kindness and forgiveness, as he never intended to cause harm.
The Holy Qur’an teaches in Surah Al-Isra (verse 23) that one must treat one’s parents with the utmost kindness and respect. Dennis, the eldest child and only son of the family, longs to fulfill this sacred duty toward his widowed 84-year-old mother. His mother’s heart beats for him, and doctors say her health grows weaker day by day—her heart has become fragile under the weight of separation from him. We ask you, as brothers in humanity, to release Dennis so that he may care for his mother, ease her suffering, and uphold these noble human values. As it is said, Paradise lies beneath the feet of mothers. When our brother serves and honors his mother, it brings blessings to all of us.
With humility and gratitude, we submit this request to you and place our hope in your wisdom and compassion. May Almighty God reward you for hearing our voice and bring peace and goodness to your land.
Respectfully,
The Family of Dennis Coyle
