One of the biggest mistakes I see in facade lighting is trying to illuminate every wall, every column, every corner and every surface.

The result?

A bright house with very little depth.

Good facade lighting is more selective.

When you light a facade from below, don't automatically aim the fixture straight up and flood the entire surface.

A little glow around the entrance. A stronger accent on one architectural feature. And enough darkness between them to let the eye rest.

This creates a facade that feels designed rather than simply illuminated.
