Having a good mindset in the morning before starting our work is key. If you can't get out of bed in the morning, or if simple tasks feel mundane and unimportant, then stop and ask yourself what you are thinking and the beliefs you are having right now.

Ask Yourself these Five Questions if You are Struggling to Get Ready for Work in the Morning

1. Do you believe God is the source of all wisdom?
2. Do you believe God will bless the work of your hands?
3. Do you believe your presence makes a difference in the lives of those around you?
4. Do you enjoy your work? Do you know the mission and purpose of your work?
5. Did you have a positive evening routine? Is what you feel in the morning a reflection of how your night ended?

What I love about advent is that it is a “clean slate” during Christmas time. No matter what Christmas was for us in the past, it seems like every year it has the opportunity, and the possibility, to be something completely different and brand new. That’s what Jesus brought with Him as He was ...

Over the years, I have attempted to follow many of my dreams, and some of those dreams I felt were callings from God. So, naturally, I felt if God was for me, then who would dare be against me? But I had no idea a lot of people dared to be against me, including myself. Trials and roadblocks didn’t just come from those around me; they came from the thoughts I had about myself and others.

The definition of love in the Bible is clearly outlined in the love chapter, but you probably have an idea of what love means to you through simply living your life. Read more about the Biblical definition of love in 1 Corinthians chapter 13.

What is daily Bible meditation?

It means to meditate on the word of God. The dictionary defines the word “meditate” as: “to focus one’s thoughts on, reflect on or ponder over.”

I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. – Psalm 119:15

For me, I consider meditating on God’s word as a slower form of Bible study. It’s a time when I slowly chew and savor the Word. I don’t want to rush through so as to miss something. And I prayerfully wait to learn from Him what I need to get from the passage.

A Humble Heart is a Living Heart

“True humility and fear of the Lord lead to riches, honor, and long life.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭22:4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Have you ever had a moment in life when you felt like every part of your identity that you relied on failed you miserably? That moment when you were so confident you “cracked the code” to life, parenting, marriage, friendship, and everything else? But then you find out life is not like baking cookies, and there is no such thing as a cookie-cutter Christian life.

There is no promise in the Bible or this world that if you do “x,y, and z,” your life will turn out amazing. The moment when this reality hits can be devastating, and we can struggle with feeling like a complete failure. We question every choice we make, and our hearts quickly fill with regret.

Oh, regret, what a terrible feeling. Yet this regret shapes us and helps us to realize the only real “secret” to LIFE, and it’s this: true humility and fear of The Lord lead to LIFE.

We are not truly living when we’re living a life of pride and finding our confidence and reassurance in anything this world offers. We are trying to be god and control the outcome, and we are trying to do what God never intended for us to do, and something He doesn’t even do Himself - and that is to control other people.

When we embrace a life where we are trying to make not one domino fall before it’s supposed to, we miss out on living life the way God intended through Jesus. A humble life, where we trust in His sovereignty and experience the riches and honor God has for us.

I know this kind of life can sound scary for someone who truly wants God’s best. But what I’ve learned is that God’s best for you is a lighter burden and an easier yoke to carry.

A living life knows that free will exists for everyone, and it trusts in God’s sovereignty nonetheless.

A humble heart is a forgiving heart.

"Finally, all of you be like-minded, compassionate, loving as brothers, tenderhearted, courteous, not rendering evil for evil, or insult for insult; but instead blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing."
- 1 Peter 3:8-9 (WEB)

Hate is such a strong word. Even if we don’t speak hatred out loud, our thoughts come before action, and it determines how we respond to what or who is in front of us. We think of hate without even considering the power behind this one word.

We say or think things like:

I hate my job.
I hate my home.
I hate my life.

Do you see where these thoughts will lead?

Do you see the seeds that are being planted just by thinking of them?

There is no humility and no peace in hating and holding a grudge. When we hate and keep thinking about how much we hate something, that’s when pride works its magic. Hatred and unforgiveness are open doors for pride.

What more can we do with our life when we think of forgiveness instead of hate?

Instead, what if we thought and said things like:

I forgive my spouse.
I forgive my boss.
I forgive my family.
I forgive myself.

Choosing to forgive helps us to find freedom, but also knowing and sharing the forgiveness of Christ brings salvation to everyone who hears the good news.

God doesn’t hate you or me. He gave everything so we could be saved and be with Him for all eternity. God forgives.

A humble heart is a righteous heart.

"Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom." - James 3:13

Wow, what a life we would live if we embraced a life of understanding and wisdom. So often, we hold onto our self-righteousness and self-justification, and we forget having a humble heart means we make an effort to be understanding, gentle, and wise.

I think fear plays a role in living the self-righteous life instead of a life of humility, understanding, and gentleness. We fear something is wrong with us when we do something we know is not the best for us, others and is no longer honoring The Lord. The truth is we all need a Savior; we all make mistakes, and we all struggle with sin.

However, when we lay down our fear of “looking bad” and embrace The Fear of the Lord, that is when we learn how to walk the humble life.

Walking the humble road always makes me think about Jesus dying on the cross in between two thieves - both thieves did something wrong. Still, the one who was prideful and avoided admitting he did anything wrong was the one who got what was coming to him. But the humble one who knew he needed a Savior was saved.

Pride will have you thinking you are justified until the very end. It’s good to have a heart that is always looking for the humble road and knows what it means to Fear the Lord. Righteousness only comes through Jesus.

We have no idea the impact our choices will make on the generations that come after us. I am confident Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz had no idea how God would use their life to fulfill His sovereign will and purpose in this world. Maybe you think your daily choices – or even your faith, loyalty, integrity, and obedience to God will make much of a difference in your life or the life of others. The truth is these qualities are not admired, nor are they ones that will make you rich and famous. But they are qualities that will allow you to walk and remain confident in the sovereignty of God over your life, your circumstances, and the people around you.

A humble heart is a gracious heart.

When we walk in humility, we are aware of our mistakes and the sin we have committed. This allows us to realize we are not above anyone. The human heart wants to be the best and be the favorite. When we have a prideful heart, we use the wins in our life to justify any behavior or action that causes us to look like we have it all together and other people don’t.

Living a gracious life and having a humble heart means allowing ourselves to be humbled by the reality of our sin and remembering the grace and mercy we need every day. It’s easy to come up with an excuse not to bless those who persecute us, mourn with those who mourn, or be jealous of those who have the blessings we wish we had in our life.

Our human heart desires to be popular, have popular friends, and build that social network to overflow. Then we flaunt the good life we have so others are sure to see how important, favored, and blessed we are.

But a gracious heart knows the truth and makes space to pray for and bless those around us. A gracious and humble heart does this because that’s what God has done for us.

"Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited."
