Six 6s and a freakin’ 48??? Man, there are very few things in life that annoy me more than this! How about you? Pet peeve?

So many times I have seen teller stamps overlap straps onto bills or handwriting and thought “Thank goodness this isn’t a nice bill, well now it is! I suppose I can turn it and try to say “Thank goodness there wasn’t two more 6s.”

(but it still burns me up)

Welcome to The Thursday Funny. This one got me, mostly because of my wife knew how many coins I bought in a regular basis, she’d kill me. Thankfully she doesn’t have access to my WhatNot account! This would be far too true!

So sweet! The lady at the bank called me over yesterday to tell me she saw an old bill that someone had deposited and she set it aside for me. As it turns out, it’s just a regular 2013 $5 Note with absolutely nothing special about it (it was just a little more worn that she usually sees and a bit darker in color) but it was the thought that counted! I ended buying a strap of $5s ($250) and giving her a $10 Amazon card for thinking about me. Who knows, maybe the next one will be a lucky one!

Helpful tip… I buy packs of $10 Amazon gift cards and keep a few in my jacket pocket. Whenever someone at some of the banks I frequent does something nice for me, I give them one. Yes it costs me BUT every now and then they hand me something work several times more than what I give away. I have an upcoming video of one of those lucky occasions (it’s going to be awesome!).

lol, story of my life!

Have you ever had this happen to you? One of the last Morgan Dollars I sold on eBay, maybe 6-7 years ago, I mistook for an average MD but ended up having an error on it. I sold it for around $30 when I should have sold it for around $300. No takesies backsies in that world so I bit my lip and congratulated the winner that had informed me of the mistake. Sound like something you’ve done?

So very true!

I have a friend that owns a print shop and she makes tons of stickers like this for me. Do you have something you’d like? Let me know and I can see if she can make it for you. When I’m not deep into a pile of coins, I drop ship products for a couple companies and can send it to you. If I get enough suggestions, I’ll pick a couple and send them for free!

(Full disclosure, I’m doing this because it sounds fun but also because I’d love to get your follow, like and comment).

Is it wrong that I want to go through all the tip jars and check the serial numbers?

We are currently traveling and in Indiana for a cheerleading competition. It’s cold, it’s snowing, and I’m away from all the work and hobbies I love… but I’m also with my wife and daughter so it’s a beautiful time. The only thing that would make this better is a box of coins and our foster kids (not necessarily in that order) but alas, traveling with both is very difficult.

Do you give tip jars a look or two? Especially when the serial number is facing out? What would you do if you saw a fancy serial number? Would you be tempted to replace a bill if you saw a solid serial number, a radar, or a binary?

Me? Heck ya! I’d offer to replace a $1 with a $10 in a heartbeat.

I’ve been fairly lazy this year and left the last couple months worth of finds in a pile. Well, it’s time to sort, organize and research! (Hey, I have a desk under all these??)

As it turns out, a great portion of the so-called “fancy serial numbers” aren’t really that fancy. I only really started hunting notes this past year so everything looked exciting at first. Notes that were “almost” fancy were kept, others with slight bleeding through were thought to be rare (they are not, it’s very common to see black ink from ONE bleed through in spots). It’s time to sort them out and send them back!

Still, I look at some of these that were almost very cool and fantasize about what it would have been like to break the original seal and flip through to the perfect binary, solid, or whatever it could have been.

Do you keep “almost cool” currency?

I’m rich! (I wish… I firmly believe that I would make an amazing rich person lol).

Going back deep into my collection, I bought this years ago when I lived in Canada. How could I not buy a $1,000,000 bill? For some reason I think I bought it on the Shopping Channel (paying far too much, I’m sure).

Absolutely fantastic! My very first Web Note found!

Honestly, I probably skipped past a few over the years due to my own ignorance but after learning what to look for, this is so awesome.

If you want to know what to look for, or if you want to share with others from your own knowledge, please feel free to comment below.

An early morning visit to the bank netted an almost 50/50 box of new/older pennies today for a little recreational coin roll hunting. I took a quick sneak peak at one of the customer rolled pennies and it looked quite promising!

I don’t know who David is (his name was on the recycled box) but thanks Dave!

Hmm, now what do I do with all these 2023s? Hunt for the extra V error, sell them on eBay, or save them for later? Inquiring minds want to know!

Oh come on, give me a break! Is this how the year is going to start?!? lol

So close.. so, so, so close. It either could have been 1 higher or 6 lower (my preferred choice).

I hope you’re having better luck than I in this (hopefully) wonderful and prosperous 2024! Happy New Year!

Happy New Years my friends!

What better fun for the last weekend of the year than a $700 bill search for star notes, error notes, and fancy serial numbers?!? (You could argue spending time with family)

Fingers crossed! I’ll probably break it into two chunks and hit the $50 straps first… updates coming!

2013 Morgan Copper Bars!

This is an interesting and really cool copper bar! I bought several of them 10 years ago when financial times were a bit tough and rather than go without, I found an inexpensive way to scratch that numismatic urge to buy.

Do you collect copper coins and/or bars?

Half Pound of pure copper!

A very interesting gift this year from loved ones and not at all what I thought I would see when I opened the box. I asked for something “a little different” and they did not disappoint! Maybe it’s the buckets of copper pennies from all my coin roll hunting adventures, or maybe they just know me that well, but this was a great idea.

Tallgrass Prairie, Kansas State Quarter, West Point Mint!

It took me forever to find my first West Point Mint quarter while coin roll hunting but now I’m on my fifth! What a way to end this year!

1944 D War Nickel!

This is the first time I have ever found a war nickel and wow, it was absolutely thrilling. I’ve gone through a dozen or so nickel boxes while coincidentally roll hunting but this was a first.. hopefully not the last. To be completely honest, I thought all war nickel had an S mint mark but apparently not. This is my first D, all the others I’ve been given or purchased were S mint marks.

Do you collect war nickels? I have a couple dozen or so and they are so neat!

1991 No Mint Mark Lincoln Cent!

Not rare (5,164,940,000 minted) and easily affordable (between $0.05 - $0.10), it’s still a very beautiful coin. The “no mint mark” doesn’t make it special, it just means that it was made in Philadelphia. At 32 years of age, it nicely kept its luster and obviously didn’t see many pockets before being found while coin roll hunting.

What caught my eye the most was how Abraham Lincoln glowed while sitting on his seat. What drew you to this post?

400x $1 Note hunt for star notes, fancy serial numbers, and error notes.

It’s that time folks, my local bank only had a few hundred $1 notes available so this is what they gave me for today’s hunt. I’ve been incredibly lucky lately but that’s mostly because my bank sources my hunt addiction through a vending machine company and two local schools. It typically gives me an endless supply of $1 bills but schools are now closed for the holidays in my area so the two week drought has begun.

Don’t hunt for star notes, fancy serial numbers, and error notes? How often do you do this?

1964 D Roosevelt Silver Dime!

How does that abused Jonathan Goldsmith meme go? I don’t always search rolls of Roosevelt Dines, but when I do it’s for 1964 silver dimes!

I seriously don’t search dimes all that often because the dates are so small and hard to read, so today when I cracked my first roll in many years and saw that bright glow of a silver rim… oh man, I love it! I have around $800 worth that have been sitting here for far too long so this is probably a hint that I should sort them and take the rest back to the bank. Thankfully I have a decent magnifying glass! I also have 5 empty Whitman folders that need filling but that feels like it takes forever to fill. They don’t even have a single dime in them yet, so this might take a while. Good thing the holidays are upon us! Maybe it’s a project for me and the kids!

Are you working on a Whitman folder? (Or equivalent) What are you missing? If you like and comment (after following me, of course), I’ll keep an eye open and send it to you if I find one.

2007 P Wyoming State Quarter with a die chip!
Mintage: 243,600,000

I found this today while coin roll hunting a $500 box of quarter. I was on the hunt for West Point Mint quarters when I came across this one. I always check but I’ve never found one before (or seen one with the chip in that location).

Have you seen this die chip error before on a 2007 P Wyoming state quarter? This is a first for me!

1951 D Lincoln Wheat Cent, with interesting toning and a bit of wear (pretty much expected on a circulated coin that’s been around for 72 years). This one was found while coin roll hunting a $25 box of pennies.

With 625,355,000 minted in 1951, it’s definitely not a rare find. A quick search on eBay has them listed for anywhere between $0.01 to $2400. The high end priced ones were just overpriced. There was graded slabs listed for $15.99, $55, and $650 (1951 D Red).

Do you coin roll hunt? What have you found lately?

1776-1976 Bicentennial Kennedy Half Dollar.

I received a couple DMs regarding the reel I posted on Instagram yesterday so I thought I’d take a closer picture for them (and you, if you’re interested) to see. It’s a very interesting coin for sure! I’m not sure what has caused the toning on it but it’s unique and an enjoyable find while hunting a $500 box of half dollars.

One person suggested maybe a q-tip with a chemical was used (thank you for that, I enjoy your insights into some of the coins I post). What do you think?

Insane $1,000 Cash Strap Search!

Today I went through 1,000 one dollar bills in search for Star Notes, Error Notes, Fancy Serial Numbers, and Birthday Notes… and I wasn’t disappointed!

While I didn’t find any Birthday Notes, I did find two Date Notes (I might have just made the name up as I don’t know what to call them. They are serial numbers that are two 4 digit dates). I found a ton of Star Notes (woohoo!), a bunch of Trinary Notes, and some very nice Fancy Serial Numbers (to me, everyone has their preferences).

I had to laugh at the sheer irony of the saying “If I had a dollar for every” when it comes to very close or “almost” fancy serial numbers. Well, I do have a dollar for every close call (and I’m sending them back to the bank).

Do you bill search? What’s your favorite type of serial number to find?

$25 in Pennies and $100 in $1 Notes! It’s hard to find the time for this, I’ll make the time!

I quickly scanned the ends and the pennies are all customer wraps and older looking. The dollar notes had at least 1 or 2 star notes, so I’m extremely excited about this hunt!

How friendly is your bank? Do they accommodate your coin roll hunting and bill searches or are you limited? Like and Comment below and I’ll share some of my secrets!

When pickings are slim, you take whatever you can and in whatever container you can!

The pickings aren’t actually slim but my one bank didn’t have much today so I took whatever they could spare in a random box. I have a few other banks to pick from but I try not to hit them more than once a week (perhaps using “hit” and “bank” in the same sentence is are a poor choice of words).

An Instagram follower messages me a week or two ago asking how I get all my coins. I exchanged several messages and shared some advice. I don’t really have a big enough following to spark a big response but if others are interested, like and comment on this post and I’ll make a special video on how I have an almost endless supply of coins and paper currency. I feel for those of you with limited access but maybe some of the methods that I’ve perfected (that’s a debatable word) can help. Let me know!
