These tiny bisque/porcelain anthropomorphised figurines are another of our collecting addictions ... Made In Japan before and after WWII, until the early 1950s, these tiny figures range in size from 1 - 2 inches and come in a wide variety of animals ... dogs, kittens, pigs, etc - they are dressed in varying costumes, from clowns to band costumes, all painted and formed with great attention to detail and color and are all enchanting. As far as I'm able to determine, the production of these tiny bisque figures was a cottage industry designed to create and stabilize a new Japanese economy. The figures were exported to the US and sold mainly in 5&10 variety stores. They sold for literally pennies, often times from the bins they had been shipped in. They were a favorite of Knic-Knac collectors, and often found their way into the toy boxes of young children as well. (Personal Collection)

A recent addition in the kitchen glassware category, this one is a Glasbake piece; a two quart milkglass casserole in the very difficult to find "Stylized Apple" design. There doesn't appear to be an official name for the design - I added it to my collection because it just says "Mid century '50s" to me. Glasbake Ovenware was introduced by the McKee Glass Company in the early 1900s. The name has undergone several owners since then, and this piece was produced by the Jeanette Company, approximately 1960. (Personal Collection)

A slight departure from the usual EAPG and post-WWI glassware, This is Anchor-Hocking's Criss-Cross Prismatic pattern, done in Depression Glass pink. The pattern was also used in kitchen ware items, from refrigerator dishes to mixing bowls. Another example of the between the wars impulse to produce utilitarian, affordable wares that were also attractive and aesthetically pleasing. I am always fascinated with the attention and care given to the designs of these "everyday" glassware pieces, and amazed that they were so affordable to the average homemaker. Most pieces seem to have sold for literally pennies, and the wholesale prices were incredibly low. (Personal Collection)

Offering a very pretty Bartlett Collins frosted pitcher, decorated by Gay Fad Studios. Gay Fad studios opened in Lancaster, Ohio in 1945 by Fran Taylor. Taylor and a small staff worked first from her home, and then a professional studio designing many different decorations which they then painted on "blank" glassware from factories such as Anchor Hocking, Hazel Atlas and Federal Glass, among others. The small business was very successful through the 1950s, finally closing in 1962

This lovely pitcher has one of the most complete designs we've seen on Gay Fad glassware and is available here online. Inquiries can be made online in the comments section.
