Our Boutique On Wheels have Walgreens Cleansing Wipes + Aloe & Vitamin E, Alcohol & Paraben Free stocked for quick wipe downs. We gravitated to this because of the surface level packaging but now and after watching The Plastic Detox documentary, we flipped packaging over to read the ingredients AND noticed the plastic wrappings. 🫢 😱

Wrapping - Plastic 🚫
Chemicals - Many

Walgreen’s Pharmacists recommend the Walgreen brand. So we will use up this and replace with bamboo or other plant-based wipes with non-plastic packaging.

This is our immediate first step.

👗 This gown is older than the United States.

Sarah Hancock Sinnickson wore this silk gown during the celebrations surrounding George Washington’s inauguration in 1789.

More than 235 years later, it still exists.

As the founder of Runway Recycled and the owner of a home dating back to 1769, standing in front of this gown gave me goosebumps.

Fashion isn’t just fabric.

Fashion is memory.

Fashion crosses timelines.

What happens when major retailers close their doors?

Their fixtures, mannequins, mirrors, racks, decor, and displays often go into liquidation to be rehomed instead of discarded.

A similar mirror was acquired during one of those rehoming efforts in Rehoboth Beach during Memorial Day 2024. ♻️

Many brides said YES to their dress in front of mirrors like this at our Moorestown, NJ and Willow Grove, PA locations. Now it waits for its next chapter — whether that’s a new home, another boutique, or traveling with us to Florida.

People often assume nonprofits receive endless free donations, but the reality is very different.

At Runway Recycled, most of what we rehome is acquired through paid purchases, liquidation events, consignment partnerships, and direct sourcing efforts. We buy, transport, store, clean, photograph, style, and recirculate items to give them a second life.

Sustainability still comes with a cost.
But we believe beautiful things deserve another chance.

Watched The Plastic Detox documentary and it empowered me to make some personal and business decisions…

Starting with transforming our Facebook community from Runway Recycled Fashion Family into the Runway Recycled Wellness Community — a space where I’ll be sharing my own journey of detoxing plastics and becoming more intentional about what I use, consume, wear, rehome, sell, and pay forward.

Before watching the documentary, I had already released our monthly newsletter, The Green Thread, where I shared the importance of natural fabrics and being mindful of what touches our skin — our body’s largest organ.

This journey is not about perfection. It’s about awareness, learning, and making better choices one step at a time.

Yes, we are still showcasing, styling, selling, and upcycling fashion to help divert textiles from landfills. That mission remains. But wellness, sustainability, education, and environmental awareness are deeply connected.

So as I walk, take in natural Vitamin D from the sunlight, spend time with my doggie, and continue learning… I’ll be sharing more of this journey with you all too.
