How to find a mover

Finding reliable movers is tough since there is such a rich variety of moving companies out there. You have to go through hours and hours on end researching and comparing different movers.

However, at the end of the day, it’s worth it. Such reliable professional ones are Spokane Pro Movers. The movers' team at Spokane Pro Movers is sustained by professionals who will take care of your belongings and handle them with great attention.

If you want to book your moving day with Spokane Pro Movers, simply go to the Spokane Pro website and give us a call.

Now, let’s check out the small guide on finding the best movers for you.

Check Recommendations and Reviews

The first thing you can do is to ask for recommendations from your friends and family who have moved recently. You also ask your colleagues or go ahead and post a question to Facebook groups or ask a real estate agent. Ask around for the costs, if the team was professional, about the customer service, if did they do everything they promised, and more.

Online reviews are another good place to go and don’t shy away from places like Google Reviews and Yelp. Check if there are poor reviews, what the good ones say, and if there are fake ones, too.

Look Through Their Websites and Speak to Them

Movers’ sites should be easy to understand by providing detailed information on their services alongside some photos or videos. Check out if they listed which cities the company works at and some basic prices for local and long-term moving.

If the company doesn’t have a website, then this is a big red flag for you to consider and stay away from.

It’s also essential to get the contacts for the company and visit their office. Talking to a person is important since only reliable companies make it easy for you to reach out to someone from their team to discuss details.

If you feel comfortable after leaving their office and had all of your questions answered, then these movers might be your people.

Ask for the Pricing

You should ask for the local and long-distance moving prices when talking with your moving company.

When we are talking about local move pricing it’s usually based on the size of the truck, how many people you need, the required time, and used materials.

When it comes to local distance moving, the price mainly comes down to the weight of your belongings and the distance.

Be Aware of Warning Signs

When searching for moving companies, it’s important to be aware of any warning signs. Such signs can be that the movers don’t need an on-site inspection to give you an estimate.

The movers can also ask for a massive deposit in cash before coming over. Another red flag is if the company doesn’t have a local address or you can’t find a license.

How To Choose a Moving Company🚛📲💪

Moving your entire life from one place to another is quite tricky. Finding the perfect moving company for the job could be a hard task to tackle.

This is why we have created a small guide down below to help you pick the best moving company for your needs.

If you need professional movers, we at the Spokane Pro Movers team can help with your moving by sorting out all your stuff, packing, and unpacking it afterward.

All of this is done with great care and attention to detail throughout the entire journey from point A to point B.

You can contact our movers from the Spokane Pro Movers Movers website. Without further ado, let’s see what makes a moving company reliable and professional enough for you to hire.

Look at Recommendations and Hire Local Businesses🪪

When you hire locally, you can have a better reach to the business and check out their equipment and see if they are legitimate. This way it’s easy to contact them if you have questions or concerns along the moving journey. Plus you will be supporting local businesses which is another great advantage.

Another tip is when you find companies you like, go around and ask for recommendations for them or any other companies that friends and family have used. You should ask about all key points like experience, the time frames, if there were damages, was the estimate followed through, and what is their fee.

We suggest that if you have a tight budget hire a moving company only for loading, driving, and unloading. Simply do the preparation and packing yourself.

Read Reviews and Verify the Moving Company💬

Following up on the previous tips, you should reach reviews online. Check out their Google and Yelp reviews. See if there are many happy customers and any issues that they might have had.

Throw on your detective hat and do proper research before hiring and depositing to a moving company.

You should check out if they carry insurance and verify any certificates and permits that they have plus the amount of insurance coverage they carry.

Communicate Effectively and Compare📑

When hiring a moving company you have to communicate your expectations and needs very carefully. Have a clear idea of what needs to be done, and what the deadline is, and put everything in writing. Make sure that they understand what you want and what the time frame for all tasks is.

A little side note should be that you can compare estimates of different companies, so don’t accept the first one that comes up. Then make a pros and cons list for all of them and decide which one fits your schedule and budget.

Read Carefully Your Contract and Deposit Accordingly📃

Once you pick the best hiring company, it’s time to read the contract. Read the fine print and make sure that you won’t have any extra charges for insurance or fuel. Everything must be disclosed and put down pen to paper with all fees included in the final estimate.

We hope that our small guide helped and you can find the right moving company for you.

02/25/2023

Moving to a new home and trying to pack light for a few days? Maybe you’re relocating and hauling your worldly possessions across state lines, or you’re packing two suitcases for a flight before meeting movers at your new place. Or maybe you’re going to be camping out in your new home for a few weeks, doing some fixups, before the rest of your stuff catches up with you.

Whatever the reason, how do you know which items are essential during your first few nights and what’s optional? What do you need to bring to your new home, and what can you leave behind without kicking yourself for it later? It may seem overwhelming to distill your entire household of possessions into a few essential boxes, but it can be done. Here are 30 items you should bring for the first days in your new home:

1. Keys - Don’t laugh — we forget the obvious all the time, and you’ll be in real trouble without these.

2. A basic first-aid kit - Be ready with Band-Aids, a thermometer, an Ace bandage, some antiseptic wipes, tweezers, and a few ibuprofen.

3. Chargers - For all your essential electronics, such as your phone, laptop, and tablet.

4. A portable alarm clock - Be sure to bring one or install an alarm clock app on your phone. Moving is stressful enough on its own. You don’t want to be late for work, too!

5. Spare batteries - For everything that’s not rechargeable.

6. Sheets and a pillow - Everyone forgets this one!

7. Extra changes of clothing - Include sleepwear and underwear.

8. Toiletries - Moving is dirty work. Remember to bring soap, shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, moisturizing cream, plus towels and washcloths for cleaning up.

9. Shower curtain - Another often-forgotten item.

10. Essential paper supplies - Such as toilet paper, paper towels, and tissues.

11. Basic cleaning supplies - After the dust has settled, you’ll need glass cleaner, multi-surface cleaner, dish soap, rags, and a broom and dustpan.

12. Enough plates, utensils, and cups - And by “enough,” we mean enough for one meal for each person.

13. A flashlight or headlamp - Make sure you’ve got new batteries in it in case of power failure, as well as candles and matches. (Matches can also come in handy if you have a gas stove that won’t light.)

14. Sunblock - You’ll probably be spending a lot of time outside moving boxes, running errands, or taking care of other tasks.

15. Any medicine you take daily

16. Easy-to-make meal staples - Move-in day isn’t the best time for a five-course meal. Bring food that doesn’t require much preparation, like pasta and sauce, cereal and milk, bread and peanut butter, canned soup, etc.

17. Any basic cookware and gadgets - You’ll need these for those easy meals. Include a pot and pan, serving spoon, and can opener.

18. Snacks - Fruit, nuts, and granola bars are favorites since they require no refrigeration, no preparation, and no utensils.

19. Beverages - You’ll want bottled water if you won’t have immediate access to a filtration system.

20. Instant coffee or tea bags - If you need that morning caffeine fix…, who are we kidding? WHEN you need that morning caffeine fix.

21. Food and dishes for pets

22. Radio for entertainment - It’s time to go old school, particularly if your Wi-Fi won’t yet be set up, which means you can’t access Pandora or other Internet-based music stations.

23. A small, portable tool kit - You’d be surprised how much you can do with basics like a hammer, screwdriver, and pliers.

24. A sturdy pair of scissors - For opening any boxes that are on their way to your new home, or packaged supplies you purchase for the new home.

25. Important identification cards and records - Know where to find your driver’s license, passport, lease (if applicable), etc.

26. Important contact phone numbers - Including your lender, moving company, and financial institutions.

27. Pen and paper - Make a list of all those to-dos you’re going to think of and all the extra stuff you’ll realize you need for the new place.

28. Cash/credit cards/checkbook

29. Duct tape - Somehow, this always seems to come in handy, even at the most unexpected times.

30. A personal treat or two - These will help you feel at home and relieve stress.

Don’t underestimate the importance of that last point. If you always end the night with a glass of wine, bring a bottle to reward yourself at the end of your long first day. (Don’t forget the wine opener and a wineglass.) If you’re an avid reader, bring a book you’ve been dying to read to help you fall asleep at night. If you feel more refreshed or polished while you’re wearing makeup, bring a tube of mascara. You’re going to be working hard when you first move in, so make sure you also allow yourself a bit of fun to make the transition as easy as possible.

02/24/2023

Every moving company is different, with some recommending up to three months notice, and others being able to accommodate last-minute moves. Here’s the current suggested timeline for each type of move:

Local moves
If you're moving during the summer, book as soon as you can. Ideally, two months before your move date. Worse case, at least four weeks, but know that if you only have a month or less before your move, you'll have a limited choice of movers. Most good movers are booked two to three months out.

If you're not moving in the summer, then you can book anywhere from two to four weeks before your move date. Keep in mind, even during the fall, winter, or spring, good movers will book up so always try to give as much notice as possible.

Long-distance moves
Ideally, you’ll want to reserve at least two months before your move date, but 12 weeks is recommended for moves during busier times (like around holidays and in the summer). To be safe, go ahead and book as soon as you have most of the details figured out.

Booking a last-minute move?
If you’re moving on short notice, call as soon as possible. In some cases, depending on availability, we can schedule a move with just 1-2 days’ notice. Just note that the closer your date gets, the more flexible you may need to be.

When to hire movers for loading and unloading
With so many people moving, loading, and unloading crews are staying very busy. If you need help, it’s best to book them sooner rather than later. If you need a labor-only move, we can schedule you for loading and/or unloading crews.

Want to book your move now?
The first step to scheduling your move is getting a quote, either online or over the phone. Then you can easily reserve when you’re ready!

02/23/2023

Organization and planning are essential when you pack for a move. Consider creating a schedule for your move and organize items by room, common function, or use. The following tips can help you get started.

• Start with items you won't need right away. Start by packing items you don’t use often so you don’t find yourself living out of boxes and repacking.

• Pack similar items together. Stay organized by packing similar items together based on room or use.

• Keep essentials packed separately for quick access. No one wants to go digging through boxes to find necessary items. Packing things such as first aid or flashlights in the same box could eliminate frustration.

• Label each box by its contents and room. Labeling boxes with contents and the room will simplify unpacking. Boxes can be unloaded directly into the correct rooms.

• Color code boxes by each room. Having a color system for each room can ensure organization when it comes to packing.

• Allow yourself plenty of time to pack. It’s usually best to give yourself a little more time than you think to organize and pack. Creating a packing schedule for a move is a great way to make sure you give yourself enough time.

Helping customers at their homes or businesses, movers prepare items for transportation to another destination. On a team with other helpers/drivers/leads, they help prepare, load, and unload items, and some also drive the moving truck. Movers work a physically demanding job that requires heavy lifting, and they sometimes work on nights and weekends to meet customers’ requests. Employers look for candidates who are physically able to do the work and provide the necessary training for qualified individuals.

Mover Duties and Responsibilities: While a mover’s day-to-day duties and responsibilities are determined by where they work, there are many core tasks associated with the role. These include:
Pack and Prepare Items - At the origin, movers help prepare and pack customers’ items to prevent damage during transit. Their tasks include taking apart furniture, wrapping items in bubble wrap or stretch wrap, putting loose items in boxes and sealed bags, and using straps and cardboard sheets on large items.
Load and Unload Items - Movers use equipment like dollies and ramps to load customers’ items from their buildings to the moving truck. They arrange items in the truck to fit the load and prevent objects from falling or getting damaged. At the destination, movers take the items off the truck and place them in the location the customer requests.
Take Inventory - Keeping track of the customer’s items to make sure nothing gets lost or damaged is an important responsibility that movers have. They write down a description of each package or item at the customer’s location before starting loading. Movers check this inventory when they reach the destination to ensure they unload all the items.
Handle Customer Requests - Movers also answer customers’ questions and address requests they have for how they want items packed, loaded, and unloaded. They also provide information about price and time estimates and address any concerns.
Perform Cleaning and Maintenance Tasks - Before leaving the customer’s loading site, movers clean up any supplies or garbage left behind during the packing process. They also keep their moving trucks clean and may help perform general vehicle maintenance.
