Packing up the Fight the Flu kits for local community members across our region.
For Community Day, volunteers came together to assemble flu-fighting kits for local community members across our region. Fight the Flu Kits provide basic healthcare resources such as facial tissues, hand sanitizer, cough drops, soup and face masks to help prevent and fight symptoms of the cold/flu.
We just wrapped up our Clips and Conversations panel for Community Day! We had an amazing discussion and hope everyone leaves feeling inspired by what’s to come. Before ending the program, we took a moment to recognize one of our valued Community Partners. Thank you, Donald Driver, for being a friend of Goodwill for 20 years, joining us in mentoring, supporting and encouraging job seekers.

Our Community Day program started off with an Interfaith Moment followed by welcome remarks from UW-Parkside's Chancellor Ford, Goodwill leaders and Business Resource Group members. We talked about the history of Goodwill and why our mission remains important, our commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and volunteerism as an integral part of who we are as an organization.
Today, Goodwill employees and community partners are coming together to celebrate our 5th Community Day through thought-provoking conversations and inspiring reflections. We will engage in a special event experience to celebrate the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday through volunteerism, belonging and inclusion.

This past November, Goodwill Great Lakes celebrated the graduation of the first group of high school students enrolled in its Youth Program, an eleven-week training experience where students learn customer service skills for fast food.
Students received a certificate of completion and a work evaluation to support their high school transition goals. The students interested in continuing their employment at Goodwill Great Lakes were offered permanent employment.

Goodwill is adding Martin Luther King Jr. Day to our list of annually recognized holidays. As we continue to invest in our communities through volunteerism, we are encouraging Goodwill employees to spend the day serving their communities in honor of the life and legacy of Dr. King.
As a result, all our Goodwill Store & Donation Centers, Attended Donation Centers and Outlets will be closed on Monday, January 16. We will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, January 17.
In 2021, Goodwill launched the Multicultural Impact Program’s first cohort for boys and men of color. This program facilitated personal and professional development for selected Goodwill employees through mentorship from our leadership team. Sessions covered leadership development, career navigation and financial empowerment.

Musician KennyHoopla performed and organized a coat drive at Lincoln Hall in Chicago on December 29. Many coats were collected and donated to Goodwill.

This year, Goodwill donated its northside facility to Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy (HFCA). The donation was the catalyst for a five-year community impact partnership with the academy.
Together, Goodwill and HFCA will engage students, their families and the surrounding community in experiences that advance education, employment training and career pipeline opportunities.
