Yesterday, we had the privilege of attending the Greater Ottumwa Partners in Progress ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Bonita Apartments. Not only are these apartments beautiful, but they also support an important cause - Mission 500. Mission 500 is a community-based initiative with the goal of creating 500 new housing units in our community by 2030.
As we all know, a community's housing market plays a significant role in determining the quality of life for residents, as well as for people considering moving to the area and businesses looking to recruit and retain employees. The Mission 500 committee is working hard to make sure that our city is a place where people want to live and work.
Ottumwa JBS Plant Manager, Joe Mach, stated "The response to the opening of these apartments has been overwhelming. We currently have over 140 applications waiting to be reviewed, which is a testament to the demand for quality housing in our area."
Got my briskets and pork butts in the smoker last night. Starting to pull the ribs off and OOOO MAN do they look good! If you haven’t been out PLEASE come see what all the hype is about! Home cooked style food, slow smoked meats, cold beers and a nice selection of delicious appetizers…sounds like a good night 🖤 Be sure to come on out anytime from 4-8 every THURSDAY FRIDAY AND SATURDAY!
PS…be sure to ask about our HOMEMADE MIXED BERRY COBBLER! A sweet finish to a great dinner!
PPS…no filter on this pic 🤫

Little side note too…I’m a local guy that works hard and I appreciate all your support. I try to repay that by keeping MY business local. Big shout out to Iowa BBQ Store for supplying me with the best equipment around. Knives, coolers, gloves, seasonings, grills…you name it they got it. Cerro Grande Meat Market for the great quality meats they supply me with and always willing to help me out when I get pressed on time! Pork, chicken, beef, seafood, produce…they got it all. Fareway Stores in Ottumwa for helping me with AMAZING customer service and even more great cuts of meat! They always put the customer first. Last but certainly not least is my wife and all the girls over at Bombshell Studio for all their input, ideas and helping me with locations for my food trailersetup. Their support means the world to me. I appreciate everything these guys do for us and all their hard work. Keep grinding guys and let’s keep this goin!

According to the recent housing study, 80% of community responses indicated that there is an undersupply of apartments and 81% indicated there was a lack of townhouses or duplexes in Ottumwa. The riverfront committee recently visited Cedar Falls to hear more about their riverfront development.
The group had the opportunity to see the inside of several of the housing units, learn about the amenities available to residents and hear how the city worked with developers to make this possible. The City of Cedar Falls and Main Street program spoke about community gathering spaces, the importance of high-speed internet, the necessary parking spaces, and the importance these played in their success.
The group included representation from Greater Ottumwa Partners in Progress, City of Ottumwa, Iowa - City Government, Ottumwa Welcome & Connect Service, Main Street Ottumwa, JBS Pork - Ottumwa, IA, Rippling Waters, and Legacy Foundation. These experiences continue enhancing coordination and help establish connections for great success for upcoming projects.
