Small business Saturday 11/26/22
✨ ✨ ✨ ✨ ✨ ✨ ✨ ✨ ✨
I’m going to step on my soap box for a minute. I’m likely more aware as a small business owner but do you know how important it is to support your neighborhood brick and mortar shops? When businesses close and everyone is sad to see them leave, my first question is “when was the last time you went there?” We all love the idea of a vibrant, bustling downtown in our #32804 neighborhood but how often are each of us visiting the store fronts and spending our money? Sure, it may be easy and more convenient for services to come to your home or to order online. We are all even willing to pay a little bit more for the convenience, right? But, how does that affect our community as a whole where we all own our homes and send our children to school?
✨ brick and mortars bring innovation and growth to our neighborhood. [hello, increased home values].
✨ Brick and Mortars invest in YOUR community [donating to neighborhood schools, supporting their clients businesses, kids fundraisers, hosting all the fun neighborhood events that your families love to attend].
✨ supporting brick and mortars means you buy and sell with your friends and neighbors [We take care of each other].
✨ local employment opportunities to members of your immediate community [young kids with their first jobs typically work at the mom and pop shops in your community].
✨ brick and mortars will typically offer unique personalized customer service because you are not just a customer or client but considered a friend and neighbor [for example: special orders, going above and beyond the normal realm of the scope of work hired for, giving extra special treatment to community members, because they are friends and neighbors].

This small business Saturday and all the days in between, try to think of the bigger picture when hiring services, shopping and dining. We have an amazing group of small business owners here in our special community, willing to go above and beyond for each of our community members that remain loyal and supportive to us. The holidays are here and everything you need is right here in CP.

Last night, I learned of two College Park businesses that closed in the last few days. My heart breaks for these small business owners who brought their passion to our community and we failed to support them. This is another reminder that with the cost of goods rising, our local restaurants and shoppes need you now more then ever. A small business owner typically is a passionate, creative person that risks everything to support their dream. Small business owners are not in the business of becoming millionaires but instead provide their passion for a niche service, product or food/beverage to a particular community, sometimes these business owners even go without a paycheck. When I discovered College Park twenty years ago, I knew it was special. The tight knit community reminded me of where I grew up in the suburbs of NYC. The architecture, history, brick streets, bustling stores and restaurants were charming and organically different from the Florida I knew at that time. I love this community, which is why I have given my whole heart to running a business and raising my family here.
A few days ago I stopped at Infusion Tea and watched a husband, wife and their children run the family business together ♥️ This is why College Park is special!! If you love this neighborhood and love living here, your support is necessary to keep the charm alive.
As we gear up for the holidays think about buying a gift from Good Crowd grabbing a meal at Tornatore's Ristorante and Italian Market, Café Linger, The Tap Room at Dubsdread, Ollie’s, Jade Sushi & New Asian or any locally owned place I may have missed. Perhaps you can purchase dog treats at Woof! Orlando (instead of online), or treat your pooch to a bath, haircut, overnight stay/day of play. You can even sprinkle your home with some holiday accessories from B Home. Purchase a kids Christmas gift at Yaya + Lou, or Nevermind Millie, stay healthy at New Moon Market and . Don’t forget to stay beautiful with Firefly Salon. Treat yourself or a loved one to handmade leather goods from Form·Function·Form. If thinking about all these things makes you tired, go get caffeinated at Cups and Pups Coffee 😆
College park needs you and more importantly, the families running the businesses of College Park need you! We will miss you El Vic's Kitchen and Thai Farm Kitchen Orlando , best of luck to you!
