This is the squeegeeing step. Tons of water is flowing through the rug to carry away soil and contaminants, we use a squeegee to physically push that suspended dirty water out of the rug. Then we repeat the process again and again until the water runs clear. Rugs are all we do!

Meet Mason, Director of Dirt Relocation.

His job today is sweeping up everything the tumble duster knocked out of these rugs. The rug looked pretty clean when it came in, but appearances can be deceiving.

The pile on the floor tells a different story.

We are very busy this time of year, but that never means rushing through the process or cutting corners. Every rug receives the same level of care and attention to detail, no matter how busy things get.

“The tag says dry clean only… do you do that?”

We hear this all the time. Those tags are mainly there to stop consumers from trying to clean delicate rugs themselves with rental machines, steam cleaners, or aggressive pressure washing. The reality is that fine rugs can absolutely be safely washed when it’s done by professionals using the proper process.

Water is not bad for rugs. In fact, controlled washing with the right chemistry and tons of water flushed through the rug is the safest and most effective way to deep clean handmade rugs.

The key is not just the cleaning method. It’s who’s doing it.

At our facility, rugs are all we do. Every day, all day. From delicate handmade rugs to heavily soiled everyday rugs, thousands come through our wash floor every year. That level of repetition matters because experience matters when it comes to properly washing rugs safely and thoroughly.

One of the most common questions we get is “Do you clean the fringe too?”

Yes, absolutely. Fringe cleaning is its own intentional step in the rug washing process. Most fringe is cotton, so we use detergents specifically designed for cotton rather than treating it the same as the rest of the rug.

A lot of rugs don’t look dirty until they hit the wash floor.

Then once water starts flowing through the rug, this happens 😳

Our goal is not to just get dirt off the rug, but out of it as well. Before washing, many rugs go through our tumble duster in a dedicated dusting room designed to safely remove pounds of embedded dust, dirt, and pet hair.

As the rug rotates, dry soil and hair fall to the floor while airborne dust is pulled out through a vacuum system similar to what you’d see in a woodworking shop. It is one of the most important steps in the rug cleaning process because a rug can hold an unbelievable amount of dry soil long before it ever looks dirty on the surface.

The more dirt removed before washing, the better the overall cleaning process works.

“Doesn’t look that dirty” usually doesn’t hold up on the wash floor 😳 This is what’s been sitting inside the rug.

Small rugs, big rugs, everything in between. Same process, same attention to detail every time.
