Here he is! BunnyMan (a.k.a. StarMan) piloting Elon Musk's Tesla Roadster in his heliocentric orbit! Don't Panic! Thanks to OranHunter at Thingiverse for his templates, to Armus Daube for his 3D printing, modeling and assembly (and patience) and to Space X for doing such an awesome thing! The Falcon Heavy launch on the left (DoctorWatson and MetaCollin)) and the rockets on the right, safely landed and ready for re–use (Zowie24 and cipis) are also from Thingiverse.

If you haven't watched the launch, make time for it! It's amazing. The entire video is entertaining and educational, but if you want to skip ahead to the description of the payload, it's at about 10 minutes. I promise watching will lighten your mood.

You all must think I am losing my grip, but people have once again talked me out of closing. (YAY?!?). Occoquan needs your help, peeps! We've had sooooooo many shops close and the rest of us are trying to hang in here until things get better, but it's been tough. (Good news; parking is easier!) Please visit any day and mention seeing this post for a discount and a little surprise thank you gift. Feel free to spread the word!

We've just started closing the shop, so come in and get the good stuff at up to 30% off!

The Preservation Station is for sale! It's a turn–key operation and the present lease conveys at the present price. Included are fixtures, inventory and free consulting while you get started. The sale even includes preservationstation.com, which was secured 20 years ago and is (according to godaddy) worth over $1500. The person taking over is more important to me than the money; it will have to be someone who is okay with food and drink, dogs and inquisitive children!
The Little Free Library will also convey and it'd be nice if the new proprietor maintains the 24/7 doggie treats and water. e.mail is [email protected]; please spread the word ; )* (I will still be at preservesmart.com and etsy (SeekOn)

Happy Rainy Earth Day! Since we've not had any customers all day (hope some of you are at the March for Science in town!), I decoupaged a barn star. The music is 1896 Schrirmer's that could not be saved. You are all my stars!

It's a rainy day in Occoquan and that gave me an (I think) GREAT idea! Wouldn't it be hospitable if we had town umbrellas at various spots around town and one or 2 at each shop? Guests could use them when needed and drop them off at any shop or eaterie when at visit's ends. I'm going to look into it and see if we can come up with a plan.

Did you know? Your price for shop finds is always up to 80% lower than in our online galleries; the exact items! The reasons are several: Primarily we love giving our Occoquan 'insiders' awesome prices on our treasures and we enjoy knowing that they are going to good homes. In addition, it costs far less to sell in person; we do not have to pack and ship (time being valuable and shipping being pricey), the swipe fees are lower and answering questions face to face is more efficient and more fun! Our online prices (while fair) are nearer to current market value and work due to a much larger market. In the shop we price most items according to the amazing prices Hannah and I are able to ferret out... we get a great deal; you get a great deal... So now you know! Shop Small and Seek On! Debra, et. al.

Hannah has taken a liking to Lenox! Look at all of the lovely pieces she has just in from a trip south of here. Best of all, the prices are $5, $7, $9, $10 and $17 and (OMG!) they are WHITE and so 25% off thru Sunday! Yes, that is a very rare piece of Fenton Rose Pink & Milk Glass back there... and some some unusual Baldwin Brass in there, too! We wrap all purchases in acid free tissue paper and our white shoppers are reusable (just clip off the business card), so your gifts are all set to go!

11/13/2014

Veteran's Day thru Sunday everything red, white or blue is 25% off! Since we try to have our shop prices at half of our online prices 25% off is HUGE. Sale includes antique wicker, vanities, tables and desks, Fiestaware, Pyrex, Blue & White Stoneware and Longaberger and Pfaltzgraff Pottery and so much more. Shop small and get your seek on! 'If it has a Past, we probably have it Present™!'

Related to the last post, we have decided to begin posting some of the coolest shop items on our website, on this page and at Amazon Marketplace. We are approved for Amazon Payments (accept all major cards as well) and any items you see posted at those places will be substantially discounted for you (in most cases 1/2 price!) if you purchase at the shop rather than having the item(s) shipped. Just drop us a text or an e.mail with your finds and we will reserve them for you. We save on the swipe rate and s/h costs and time, you get a happy happy deal and our cool treasures stay nearby! That's a WIN WIN WIN! Armus is working on the shopping gallery now. Keep posted to see when it's live... ; )*

Our tea station is coming back this week! Stop in for a cuppa and a visit. Hannah has been finding so many terrific things that I've had to reel her in until I can get caught up! Do you know that we have sets of vintage barware here (Fred Press, Georges Briard and other huge names from the MCM period...) that sell for almost $300 in Old Town Alexandria and Georgetown? Our prices are a fraction of that; NOT just 1/2, NOT just 1/3... LESS than 1/4! Party Like the Drapers!!!

10/17/2014

We've been up to TOO MUCH FUN! Our progeny (all 3!) are now helping out at the shop. We are 100% family-owned and operated and that means Dave and I have lots more time for painting and up-cycling stuff and we have lots and lots of new antiques and vintage finds (and just plain cool stuff) coming in daily. Our daughter Hannah has been especially busy south of us and has turned out to be a very talented picker. Go Hannah! Sons David and Armus are curating the books (etc.) section and are staying open some evenings, so come on down and browse! Bring a gently used book or 2 for the Historic Occoquan Little Free Library and enjoy a Virginia Red Cedar and Lavender Sachet in thanks.

Had a boo.boo that meant I missed most of the Lemonade Yard Sale (though Sally, Bob and Jennifer covered for me). Look for me to be posting yellow sale tags to items all week. Better late than never! Still settling in to the new shop and we need to make ROOM!

06/22/2014

EMERGENCY Clearance & Moving Sale continues this week with 40% off most of Debra's pieces and books and 10% off Sally's great antiques (15% >$100).
Check here for hours outside regular 12 to 7 Wednesday thru Sunday. We have to sell A LOT to fit in Gudi's place!

06/21/2014

Hope to be by about 3:30 today. It's my first day back and I just want everyone to know how much I appreciate all the supportive calls and e.mails. The EMERGENCY CLEARANCE SALE is on! Just mention having seen this notice or received an invitation and just about everything will be half price for you. We are just moving around the corner to 204 Union Street (the Occoquan Antiques building next to C**k & Bowl) but we have waaaayyyy too many pieces to fit there. Come by and help us clear out!

Gorgeous weekend here in Occoquan; busy at the shop chatting with folks while painting and refinishing a few interesting pieces. Come on by! Our bookseller has just brought in lots of new titles and our antiques dealer is bringing in smalls today and tomorrow. Colleen has all of her gorgeous (and useful) up-cycled antique window sashes, boards and furniture 20% off! (Please note that the sale ended 3/31, but her prices are great and there are still a few mark-downs!)

K - someone just asked me what 'care and safe storage questions' means. Whatever you may be storing away (or have stored away) - a quilt, a book collection, photos, - just about anything, really - paper ephemera to clothing to antiques and heirlooms - everything is affected by light, temp, support, etc. and the condition it was in when tucked away. Bring your items (or photos of them), or just your questions and we'll be sure you are doing, or will do, the best thing for your particular need. No charge - it's what I do and I love it! While you are here, enjoy a cup of tea and a bit of a browse through our every-changing vintage, antique and just plain cool inventory!

03/07/2014

Bring your care and safe storage questions for Preservation Pointers from 1 to 4 tomorrow (Saturday). Meantime, Stay Warm (and Dry!)
