The brain-changing benefits of exercise
"Exercise is the most transformative thing you can do for your brain"
What's the most transformative thing that you can do for your brain today? Exercise! says neuroscientist Wendy Suzuki. Get inspired to go to the gym as Suzuki discusses the science of how working out boosts your mood and memory -- and protects your brain against neurodegenerative diseases like Alzhe...

Are you doing Murph this weekend in honor?
Drop your times below.
05/29/2021
Risers! I'm sure you've all seen the press release below. Tomorrow morning, instead of gathering to do Murph as planned, I would encourage you to take part in the Public Assisted Search instead.
We will reschedule the Murph event in the future.

Exercise can significantly improve mental health. As little as a 10 minute walk can be impactful.
03/15/2021
Risers!!! I hate to use this page only for scolding or complaints, but we've had a few issues recently and this seems to be the easiest way to address everyone
Please do not let anyone into the gym. All active members have their own active key fob. If you have friends or family in town to drop in, please let us know. If you have someone that wants to drop in to TRY the gym, please let us know.
Also, over the last few months we've had multiple speakers blown. I've been fighting the Boss Man about moving the receiver to the office and not giving members access, but after just replacing three blown speakers over the weekend, we came in tonight to the radio absolutely, speaker blowing, ear shatteringly cranked. I love loud music, I love hard rock, BUT please, please be respectful of the equipment.
Lastly, be a decent human being and WIPE YOUR EQUIPMENT DOWN. We've strategically placed cleaning solution, with beautiful new towels all within easy reach!
And, always a necessary reminder, clean gym shoes are required!
We're working hard to provide a clean and safe facility with top notch equipment because I love to move heavy things and we love this community.
THANK YOU ALL for your continued support, we love and appreciate you more than you know!

03/09/2021
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE change out of your street shoes when you come in. Mud, salt, dirt and sand are terrible for the equipment and make a huge mess.
There is a bright yellow sign as you walk in the door as a reminder.

How it started ➡️ How it's going
So proud of our humble little gym and our members.
02/08/2021
📣 Risers📣. We have a problem, a good problem! Our parking is at a premium. Please park tight, and closer to each other during peak times. If you're first in, pick an end and everyone else, work from there.
We want to be respectful neighbors, try to stay on our side of the lot.
We do have plans for added parking, but until this winter wonderland leaves us, we are limited on options.

Sleep and stress, two massive impacts on your overall health. So simple, yet something we all struggle with.

Yep. We welcome you.

How did you start your New Year? We would love to have you join us at Riser! We look forward to 2021, continuing to build out this family, this third space, for our community, all abilities.

Exercise is medicine!!! 💪 🙌
I'm sure you're sick of seeing me post this as much as I am. But I won't stop 😉
Why aren't we being encouraged to pursue the improvement of our physical condition?
It's been almost entirely ignored
*The CDC reports obesity increases risk of hospitalization from covid-19 by 700%
*Poor cardiovascular fitness is an increased risk factor
* A study from the University of Virginia found exercise reduces a person's risk of even contracting covid-19
* Exercise is known to impact and improve the immune system
* Acute respiratory distress syndrome, is a top cause of death from covid-19. Research has shown that there is an exercise-induced antioxidant that can protect against this
* There's now an abundance of evidence that Vitamin D reduces covid-19 infection, severity, ICU admission and mortality
* Collectively, studies show vitamin D, is a far more effective basal covid-19 treatment, than any additive pharmaceutical available to date
But rather than continue my rant for the EIGHTEENTH consecutive 14 day period, let me shift gears
Maybe it's the fitness professions fault
There's an overwhelming attitude that we are just about looks or aesthetics. That we are about pecs, guns, butts and leg day
But the fitness profession is more than that
It's about strength, muscular endurance, aerobic capacity, mobility, & much more
There's an ABUNDANCE of scientific evidence showing the benefits of exercise on
cardiovascular disease,
high blood pressure,
cancer,
obesity,
diabetes,
asthma,
heart disease,
stroke recovery,
osteoporosis,
sarcopenia etc
And the mental health benefits of regular exercise? That's indisputable and even more impressive
I lost my mother to a heart attack when she was in her 50's. My dad has had 2 strokes. My mother-in-law has COPD. Last month I lost my father-in-law to cancer. All conditions that can be helped with exercise
I'm a 2 time cancer survivor who had a stem cell transplant. If it wasn't for fitness, I wouldn't be here.
Yes we can help athletes perform better and people to look better
But I truly believe that we do so much more
Exercise IS medicine!
Fitness IS essential!
