Twenty five years ago my favorite thing to do was travel the world playing Magic the Gathering with these guys. They all moved to Seattle to work for Wizards of the Coast and I stayed here to start up an event focused store bringing similar experiences to the Pittsburgh Magic community. After MagicCon Vegas ended last night I watched our Pittsburgh Steelers defeat the Las Vegas Raiders in their beautiful stadium with these old friends. It felt like old times as we crowded into a car headed to the stadium just like we did for PTQ’s in the 1990’s. I am thankful for the friendships and memories that MtG has helped me create. I hope my former customers keep making those MtG related memories too.

Hope everyone enjoyed Prerelease Weekend! Thank you to all the people that requested we share our Prerelease Song Playlist. If you ever attended a Magic the Gathering Prerelease at Mr. Nice Guy Games, you will know that we always used music to help form memories.
The MNGG Prerelease playlist contains the 22 official prerelease songs from our epic Monroeville location events; which averaged nearly 500 people each weekend. The list starts with three songs that were played during prereleases at our cozy Oakmont location. These songs made strong memories and inspired us to curate a song for each prerelease at the Monroeville store. Songs 26, 27, & 28 were the most memorable songs during our post-pandemic prerelease weekends. The last two songs were played on loop with my close friends for the sets themed around vampires, werewolves, and zombies. The memories are so strong that we laugh as soon as we hear these songs.
We also wanted to share the playlist that we made for the end days at the store which we played on repeat that entire last week. The MNGG Finale playlist contains 50 inspirational and memory-provoking songs. The songs are organized in order to chronologically tell the story of the 22 years of the store. It was an emotional ride full of dreams, struggles, and successes. We will cherish the memories forever with the help of these playlists. I wanted to thank my friends that came to celebrate my last day at the store. The Last Draft at Mr. Nice Guy Games was a chaos draft with some cool prizes and of course a Cookie Cake on the line. I enjoyed giving one last pre-tournament speech. I knew it would be emotional, but it was made more special by our pizza delivery driver from Caliente Pizza interrupting my speech with, not just a delicious hot pizza, but a sincere heartfelt thank you for the memories he had at my store. And just like in a cheezy Hallmark movie, I went 4-0 against 15 of the best drafters in Pittsburgh and won the final Cookie Cake. It was truly my favorite draft ever.

I have been selling game cards for thirty years and have run Mr. Nice Guy Games for over twenty years. For most of my life, my dream was to make the best game store in the world. I know that I accomplished being the best game store in at least a few categories over the last ten years here at this Monroeville Mall location. I never did achieve my vision of the perfect game store but the number of good memories created here was more than I could have ever imagined. I'm still overcome with tears of joy on a daily basis here. A small child in the store just yesterday said, "This is my favorite store in the world." Another store owner recently told me that he hopes to be like me someday and he called me a "Legend of the East Coast." I'm going to miss that stuff. Thank you to everyone that cared about this place over the years and thank you to everyone that helped to give this nice guy a career that was magical. I am going to retire now and I am going to smile forever because of everything that happened here.
