It’s with great sadness that we share that Midwest Mountaineering’s owner and founder, Rod Johnson, passed away October 26th. Rod was an intrepid adventurer, an intuitive retailer, and a passionate builder of outdoor community. His lifetime goal was getting people active outdoors, and in that he was supremely successful. Rod started Midwest Mountaineering in 1970 in his kitchen, and it became a nationally recognized icon of outdoor retailing. Rod will be greatly missed by the many, many people he touched over the years. Happy trails on your next adventure, Rod.
