Our Story
We are looking to make adopting any breed or species fun; heck a party. No more glum and blah. The Bunny Hutch combines elements of a zoo, animal adoption, nutrition, animal rehabilitation, conditioning, community outreach, habitat enrichment, conservation and fun.
Animals cared for by Keepers in a zoological environment live mentally stimulating lives and often live more than twice their wild counterparts do. This knowledge is not a secret, anyone can learn how to enrich ANY family members life. No matter if you are covered in fur, feather, skin or scales The Bunny Hutch can help you.
We are sorry to say that our Virginia Beach location will be closed by the end of the year. We are hitting the road and advocate for Exotic animals all around the USA. If you want to learn more please go to www.TheBunnyHutch.ORG

📣 We would like to give a shout out to one of our closest partners The Bunny Hutch!! Not only do they have a continental giant rabbit as their mascot🐰, but they have an awesome team who have helped animals of all species, in countless ways.
🫶 We couldn't provide life-saving services to our community's most vulnerable animals without these wonderful friends. With everything from monetary donations, supply donations, and even transporting sick animals who need specialized care, The Bunny Hutch has been a tremendous help.
👏 👏 Thank you for everything The Bunny Hutch!
We know we ask a lot of our community but the work of an animal shelter never stops. So here we are, asking for your help once more. THANK YOU for all you have already done in showing kindness towards the animals we take into our care. We could not do what we do without you.
We have stepped up to take on a large case in the community that involves over 50 medium-sized unsocialized dogs. Over the last week, SRCAS has been working with a homeowner in the community to trap as many dogs as possible to receive a health check, spay/neuter and updated shots.
We are asking for monetary donations to our Partners for Pets fund at
www.santarosa.fl.gov/399/Donate-to-the-Shelter to recoup medical costs already spent and help with future medical costs related to this case and others that the shelter assists with. No amount is too small.
These dogs have not had much human contact. This is just the first step in a multi-step process. The next step after spaying/neutering the dogs is to begin behavioral modification with as many as possible so we can get them adopted out into their furever home.
Due to the shelter being over capacity, the dogs will remain with the homeowner and as kennels open up, the dogs will be transitioned to the shelter. Thanks to the tireless work of shelter staff (which includes our awesome Animal Control Officers, who are under Animal Services, that worked through rain, mud and heat to setup, tear down and capture dogs) and partners, over 40 dogs have been spayed/neutered and updated on their shots.
The shelter would like to thank the following for their involvement in making this a successful operation:
The Jacksonville Humane Society Fido Fixers - provided mobile vet bus and vet assistance
Pasco County Animal Services
Best Friends Animal Society
Guardians of Rescue
The Bunny Hutch
A HOPE
Santa Rosa County Emergency Management
Lifeguard Ambulance Service of Santa Rosa County, Florida - standby in case of an emergency
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
We have been overwhelmed by the community's response after taking in over 70 dogs from a rescue case in Gulf Breeze the week of Feb. 21. Many different shelters, rescues, businesses and individuals responded to a plea for help from the animal shelter.
Thanks to the tireless work of shelter staff, less than 25 dogs from this case remain in the shelter's care. The shelter would like to thank the following for their involvement in making this a successful rescue:
Rescues/shelters that took dogs not only from this case but also from the shelter to make room for more homeless dogs:
The London Sanctuary
Phoenix Rising Rescue

BISSELL Pet Foundation - emergency empty the shelters event in Florida
"We could not have done what we did without all of the support we received and the amazing work of our shelter staff," said Dr. Megan, shelter veterinarian. "We started out with over 70 dogs on Mon., Feb. 21 at the Agriplex in East Milton and by Friday, we were able to move operations back to the animal shelter because almost every dog from the rescue case had found a place in less than a week."
The shelter would also like to thank members of the community and beyond who sent in food and monetary donations. The shelter is fully stocked with dog food and received over $5,000 in donations online.
"The work of an animal shelter never stops," said Dora Thomason, shelter supervisor. "We can't thank everyone enough for the role they played in the shelter's ability to be positive and successful in aiding our customers over the last week, whether they were four-legged or two."

Is The Bunny Hutch still taking in and looking for homes for critters? I've gotten a little confused as to what's going on but I'm still looking to adopt a hedgie and possibly a beardie or other scaly thing. 🥺
I am so sorry to hear about Jr. He was loved by all. 😥
We plan to work with the The Bunny Hutch in the future to donate 5% of all profit from Pawperties from future sales to help a local non profit organization that takes in exotic animals, like Foxes!
Dr. Leber and our team in our Chesapeake office have enjoyed treating Pollyanna for cataracts over the last several weeks. Pollyanna is a Holland Lop Rabbit with The Bunny Hutch and CLIMATES Exotic Animal Rescue. Be sure to give their page a like and follow to keep up with all the great work they are doing!

What a terrible approach to rescue this place has. They will threaten and harass people calling for help. What a shame that this is one of the faces of "rescue". Don't bother calling these guys for help, they'll just send animal control to your house and harass you for doing the right thing. Do not support this business.
Wonderful folks. That is one big bunny. Lol
