As we make our way through the flu season, I wanted to share another way of fighting the flu; NO FLU tea sold at Purple Shutter Herbs in Winooski. NO FLU tea contains many wonderful herbs, most notably elder flower, which research has shown prevents the flu from attaching to cells. Elder flower is a wonderful herb because it can treat the flu even after symptoms first start!
To buy NO FLU tea please visit our friends at:
Purple Shutter Herbs at 7 W. Canal st. in Winooski!

With so many suffering from "ohwaitthat'snotacoldthat'stheflu!" lately, I wanted to share with everyone an herbalist Pro tip: a towel tent. What is a towel tent? First, boil some water on the stove. Once it reaches boiling, turn off the burner and add your herbs. This time of year is a great time to use both peppermint tea and kitchen rosemary in a steam to help open the lungs. Add the herbs, then stand so your face is in the steam with a towel draped over your head and the pot. (Be careful your towel doesn't catch on fire on a still warm burner.) Rosemary is an antibacterial herb and will help kill bacteria in the lungs. Peppermint is a sharp smell that helps open airways. Do a towel tent twice a day for as long as you have congestion in the lungs. Be sure to stay inside for half an hour afterwards as the cold air will be harsh on your opened airways. I am continually amazed by the power of ordinary kitchen herbs to keep us healthy or help heal us when we are sick. Wishing everyone the best of health!
