1930 Lightwin and Electric Starting!

This is us messing around with our 1930 Lightwin 4hp outboard in the barrel, with a little electric starting thrown in the mix. Warning: we do not hold responsibility to you or your motor if you try to electric start a motor this way.

We mess with our 1930 Evinrude/OMC Lightwin in the barrel. The motor is a 4hp but it looks identical to a 5 1/2hp that we have in the shop, we even used the ...

S 14 with the Mod Mark 50

We have been busy the past summer but now that we have a little more time we can start messing with this stuff again. Here is a run up and down the river of out Duratech S-14, a 14 ft. aluminum boat we built a deck and steering for, with our "Mod" Mark 50. The main reason for this test is that we were having issues with cavitation and we had put some cup in the props which eliminated that. Also side note, the audio isn't that great because i used the wrong case on the GoPro but i am working on an in boat video that was shot on a much better camera and microphone.

This is our 1960 Duratech S-14 14ft boat running our "Mod" Mark 50. The motor is a true sand cast Mark 50 that has been heavily modified and has fitted with ...

S-14 Fun

We took out our 14 foot aluminum boat over the weekend and ran it with both our Mercury KG-9 and the freshly restored 1957 Johnson 18hp with electric start.

We took out the S-14 to the river to try out our freshly restored 1957 Johnson 18hp with Electric Start but not before running it with our Mercury KG-9. Next...

Intro to the new channel

I haven't been posting a lot on here lately and that's because I've been working on something big, and here it is. An official Youtube channel for us where we can post more, higher quality videos more often.

We are going to try to up the quality and quantity of videos of us talking about and messing with old boats and outboards.

1949 Mercury kf7 test run

We finally got a center deck and steering hooked up in the S-14 so we are testing out our 1949 kf7 before we take it out to the river.

Impossible to contact! I needed help with my order, I sent email no response, I called at least 6 times and no one ever answered. I received absolutely no support whatsoever.

Looking for some friendly technical help. I am a novice when it comes to boat repair. Picked up a 1999 40hp Merc Force motor for cheap and working on getting it running. Recently tried to start and after hooking up the battery terminals, I started getting smoke for the motor housing below the cowl. I quickly disconnected and discovered one of the ground wires was very hot. I reconnected to be sure and the grounding wire began to heat up and glow red. I think this ground runs from the trim motor. What could be causing this issue? Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you so much for the tech info you have provided. I have a 73 Merc 110 9.8hp that my late uncle gave to me 8 years ago. it was wired wrong, the wires were corroded, and the insulation was cracking off. replacing the wires was an easy decision but since i was putting it back the way i found it - it never ran. without your info i would have never figured it out.
Glad I found this site. Been looking for other people with same interest. I am in FWB and am looking for vintage boat motor meets in area. Any planned for 2019.
Want to thank Bill & Tom for their help on my '99 40hp Johnson. Replaced the VRO with one of their pre-mix fuel pumps. Engine runs like a champ now.
Hello, I'm restoring a henry o 15ft Challenger(1987) and am considering a Johnson 70 for its power. I wanted to find one the same year or close give and take a few. what do you think? Would they still be a reliable engine if went thru and rebuilt? Thanks for your most professional opinion.
