As many of you know, we are no longer in the crab business and have fully transitioned into a garden center. However, this season we've been surprised by the number of customers who have reached out asking about our special crab seasoning blend.

Because so many people have used this seasoning for years as part of their family crab feasts and summer traditions, we wanted to see if there would be enough interest to put together a bulk order for our longtime customers.

We thought this would be a great opportunity to share a post from 2014 that tells the story behind the special blend we developed with J.O. Spice and the history of Logullo's Seafood.

If you'd be interested in purchasing some seasoning, please let us know. We'd be happy to help keep this tradition going. 🦀

A Few Fun Facts...

Did you know that during an average crab season, we sell almost two tons of crab seasoning?

Did you know that several other crab retailers in the area purchase our seasoning to cook their crabs for retail sale?

Our seasoning was originally developed by a spice company in Baltimore, Richard Logullo Sr., and his brother Joe - over 25 years ago. Not long after, the JO Spice family teamed up with our family, and after weeks of product development and "tweeking" of the recipe, our proprietary family recipe was born - and has remained the same ever since.

5261 Summit Bridge Rd., Middletown, DE is the only place in the world you can buy our seasoning.

Did you know that we also had a proprietary shrimp seasoning that was developed at the same time? Unfortunately, we no longer carry Jumbo Gulf shrimp, and the seasoning was discontinued about 20 years ago. The very last batch of this shrimp seasoning was consumed in 2014 on several pounds of Jumbo Shrimp from the Gulf of Mexico, by the owner and his wife... and it tasted just as good as it did 20 years ago...!

Our seasoning is available in bulk. 50lbs. for $69.95

Many people have come in and asked why our walls are lined with bales of brown straw.

It’s Longleaf Pine Straw Mulch — a certified organic mulch that’s been a staple throughout the southern United States for generations.

We know it’s different from the dyed wood mulches most people around here are used to. That’s okay. Sometimes different is better.

Pine straw became popular in the South because of its abundance in pine forests, but it stayed popular because it works.

Benefits include:
• Helps retain soil moisture
• Regulates soil temperature for healthier roots
• Adds organic matter to the soil as it breaks down
• Excellent erosion control on slopes and banks
• Less likely to harbor artillery fungus
• Natural appearance and easy maintenance

3 bales of pine straw provide coverage similar to 1 cubic yard of traditional mulch.

On this week’s species spotlight we have the “Tiny Wine”Ninebark Shrub. This is a great native alternative to the invasive red/burgundy Japanese barberry bushes that are so common in many landscapes that have not only been banned in Delaware and Pennsylvania but have also been shown to breed black legged ticks that spread Lyme disease🤢🤢. This dwarf ninebark has a beautiful deep purple leaf throughout the year which is then adorned with ribbons of light pink flowers in late April. This dwarf shrub only grows 4 to 5 feet tall and wide and can easily fit into the home landscape. It is best suited for the back of your garden beds where various perennials can be placed in front of or around it. This garden gem is also the host plant for 27 species of butterflies!🦋 🦋🦋. Ps. We’ll give you 10% off this native or any others we carry if you remove any invasive you have on your property like Barberry!!
