Amazing what you find hiding behind the grinder. This ones a Viking style Seax from 3 or 4 years back.

And before you say why take it apart, my forge is at the bottom of a lovely grassy hill where it’s been raining for the past three days :)

Water Stone tip.

Rust Erasers to clean stones.

Works really well on hard stones like Shaptons etc. Cleans the stone without grinding it down which normally happens of you use a diamond plate. Doesn’t works so well on soft stones like the Naniwa Aotoshi as it leaves a bumpy surface.

Chosara 800. Def liking this. Have always been a huge fan of the edge the King 1000 leaves on kitchen knives when followed up lightly with something nice in the 4K to 6k range. Problem with the king is it’s not that fast and really doesn’t do well on steels like m390 etc. Enter the Chosara 800. Def not an 800 grit stone. More like a 1000/1200. Has a great feel, is super fast, almost too fast, doesn’t load up at all, and as a bonus, the edge it leaves is almost identical to the King 1000. Will see how it does in time but so far, yumm.

Made this little knife out of K110, Bohlers version of D2. Now before you go getting all uppity about D2 being all toothy and nasty, try sharpening it on Ceramics or Diamond plates. Wicked keen edge.

Current favorite #waterstones for kitchen knives. 600 Grit stone from Carter Cutlery to set the main edge and a King 6k to polish it. Yea I know 600 to 6k is in the traditional sense too far a jump but the 6k is only there to polish the 600 lines, not to remove them. You can also see ma sharpening bridge. A pair of 2 by 4s that force fit in the sink with some channels hacked in to stop water going all over the counter.

Hay Guys. Came across this 600 grit water stone on Carter Cuttlery’s site. Being the stone horder I am, had to grab one and super glad I did. It’s aggressive as f**k but has a smooth silky feel much like a Bestor 1.2k or Rika 5k. Def putting this in my standard rotation.

Grinding off the can, one of the stainless welds came apart. Clearly I have a lot to learn about making stainless dammy. This was soaked at 2000+ for a good 35 minutes and the can was a tight fit. I had sanded if any oxides prior to inserting it. Am thinking of making a little argon chamber next.

304 / Mild steel combo looks awesome. Too bad it didn’t stick. The billet popped when it was cooling. Combination of weak welds and different expansion / contraction rates is my guess. Ah well. Worth a try. Lots of other combo potentials.

This is mild and 304 forge welded together. I some how have a feeling it didn’t weld well. I’ve done 304 and AEBL successfully but wanted something max contrast hence mild and 304. Will see it it will draw out without popping.
