Our first official label-sanctioned listening party is in the books and it was a success! The fact that anyone came out to our small record shop here in Liberty Hill to listen to Boards Of Canada made me happy. Had some great conversation with those who came as well which is always welcome.

We'll continue playing the new album as I dig it. Has some very chill tunes and then some tunes that would mix very well into other albums I like from artists like Meat Beat Manifesto, Adrian Sherwood, and others.

If you haven't grabbed a copy, we have them available on StaticATX.com

Thank you to Redeye Warp Records and Boards Of Canada for the support!

Hello everyone. This has come up a few times with people asking me about when sales tax is charged and when it's not, specifically as it relates to online sales.

The way online sales are taxed depends on where the seller and buyer are located and how much volume that seller does in the state the buyer is in. Static ATX Records is located in Texas, which means that any time someone living in Texas buys from our record store, whether online or in-store, I am required to collect sales tax and submit it to the state. We're all used to this.

However, when someone from outside of Texas buys from the store, the sales tax paid would be for the state the buyer resides in. Whether or not I am requied to collect that sales tax depends on what that state's threshold is and whether I do enough sales in that state to exceed the threshold. That threshold is generally $100,000 which I don't exceed in any state other than Texas.

That means that if you don't live in Texas and you buy your records from StaticATX.com then you will save a few dollars when you aren't charged sales tax.

It also works in the opposite direction, if you live in Texas and you bought from a store in another state then you wouldn't get charged the sales tax.

How these rules are applied to larger marketplaces like Discogs and Ebay, which does do business that exceeds the threshold in each state, is that you will pay the sales tax regardless.

So why am I bringing this up? Simply to explain why you may be charged sales tax on some online orders and not on others. This doesn't incentivize buying from out of state necessarily because you're still paying shipping and all that.

So if you're trying to save money, the best way is always going to be to shop local. But when shopping local isn't an option and you have to buy online, it's best to shop small businesses (as opposed to large marketplaces) and buy out of state. You'll find yourself saving a few bucks here and there.

The event last night at Elysium was a lot of fun. We were there for the Oddities Market with boxes of records and CDs, which was the backdrop for an a great night of dancing and music. The DJs played a lot of classic tracks, including the first time I was hearing a DJ play Rain Of Blood by Die Form in a club in over 20 years.

As I mentioned to anyone that would listen last night, I was selling a large portion of Charles Park's, aka DJ Edminister, record collection. All proceeds from those sales are going to be sent to his mother. The amount made was $360 but I'm going to send more to her because we still have a lot of his collection still available. I'll be taking it with me to the Austin Record Convention as well as having it available in the store. Once I'm able to, probably mid-June, I'll start adding it to the StaticATX.com website. Apologies to all the non-locals, but I want to ensure that those whose lives he touched have a fair shot at getting these first.

I had a lot of fun conversations with people last night about music. One highlight was a recent music major who told me he wasn't familiar with the styles of music being played at the club and he wanted a recommendation on a CD to buy. After some discussion, he walked away with a copy of Kiss + Swallow from IAMX. Hopefully he enjoys it, it's a fun album!

Now we begin our final preps for the Austin Record Convention next weekend. Just a reminder that the store will be closed Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as I'll be at the convention. We'll have the Boards of Canada listening party on Thursday and you'll have a chance to go through what I'm taking to the convention if you'd like.

Have a great rest of your weekend and Happy Memorial Day to everyone in the U.S.!

Hello everyone. Static ATX Records will be at the Austin Record Convention next weekend, May 29-31. Our tables are 29-31, so it aligns perfectly with the dates! The convention has table maps available at the entrance to make it easy to find your favorite sellers. Or you can just look for the massive Static ATX Records banner I'll have up.

We will be bringing a mix of new and used vinyl records and CDs. Yes, CDs... because they are back baby! Mostly used though, and for those who come into the store just know it'll be new stuff I haven't put up in the store yet. If I can get everything ready in time, thinking of making it all available for folks in the store on Thursday if you want to come by.

As per usual, you know I lean towards the darker genres: Industrial, Goth, Synthpop, Electronic, Punk, etc... but don't worry boomers, I have some Zeppelin and Sabbath too. I'll have the hipsters covered too with rare Ween and Smiths vinyl.

I have at least an entire crate full of "wall records" too, these will be the rarer stuff that mostly hardcore collectors want. I might post some teaser photos on social media before the convention if there is time.

Keep in mind that the physical store is going to be closed down while the convention is happening because I haven't yet perfected the cloning technology needed to be in two places at the same time. I have some meetings setup with top scientists next month to learn about any breakthroughs they are making though.

And don't forget that next Thursday is the Boards Of Canada listening party at 6pm. We have a limited number of the promo goodie bags to give away with purchase of the new album. There is the color vinyl, black vinyl, and the CD.

Peace out fam!

Man, I had to work to get these. Been on backorder since it was released, saw some come available so I snatched them only to see it go on backorder again before I could get em. So I did some begging and my distributor came through!

I don't normally do preorders on something that is technically already out but I wanted to give y'all a chance to reserve yourself a copy before I get them in. I am getting 10 copies, so not a lot.

It's up on the StaticATX.com site or you can come by the store to reserve your copy. I should be getting them in early next week!

Mark your calendars for September 18th folks because Cold Waves announced the lineup for the Austin show today!

We were thankful last year when they brought Clock DVA, Mentallo & The Fixer, Front Line Assembly, Lead Into Gold, Nitzer Ebb, Curse Mackay, SINE, and Llora to Austin. This year we're getting another incredible lineup once again at Mohawk.

We have some 30 year celebrations for some classic albums this year it looks like. Stabbing Westward is celebrating Wither Blister Burn & Peel, 16 Volt is celebrating LetDownCrush, and Acumen Nation is celebrating Territory = Universe.

Maybe you're familiar with these names and maybe you're not. But if you're into Industrial music then I'd recommend checking this show out. You got old school artists next to new school artists like Chalk, whose debut full length album Crystalpunk came out earlier this year (and we're carrying at StaticATX.com!)

Hello Static ATX Community. Back at it again to tell you that Interscope has finished with their special club edition of Chris Cornell's second solo album "Carry On" so now they're giving indie stores a shot at it.

Coming out in June on double black LP, we get this beautiful man's second set of solo tracks on vinyl.

Up for preorder on StaticATX.com today or you can stop by the store later this week.

Man it's depressing to be reminded of his passing, the man had a crazy set of pipes on him didn't he.

When I first opened the store, I only carried artists and styles I was already familiar with for the most part. One of the things I've enjoyed this first year having the store open is all of the conversations I've had with all of you about the music you're into.

What you see here in this photo of a manifestation of that. You've got Sleep Token, Bring Me The Horizon, Dayseeker, and Kublai Khan Tx... all groups I wasn't very familiar with but after hearing how excited y'all were about them I was inspired to get them into the store.

Music discovery is a multi-way street. I hope I'm able to turn you onto some new music and all of you turned me onto some new music as well! Also love to see you all in the store talking to each other, turning each other onto music, when that happens.

Keep that love of music alive! Check us out online at StaticATX.com

What have you heard lately that you're into?!

Announcing this restock simply because I know a few of y'all were looking for this one. Everyone's favorite psychedelic pop group Cindy Lee's massive 2024 3LP album is back in stock in the shop. We don't know when these will run out but if you haven't grabbed a copy and this is your vibe, just know we got more in!

This album was on a lot of Best of 2025 lists and even though the hype around Cindy Lee has calmed down a lot, these are still going for big bucks on the secondhand market. Don't let the flippers win, just buy it for retail cost from me or your favorite indie record shop.

Have a nice weekend folks.

This one is for all the country music fans! 49 Wi******er, an alt-country soul band from the Appalachia region of Virginia, released a new album today called Change Of Plans. We have copies of the Indie Exclusive variant signed by the band as well as four promotional flags the label sent us. If you buy a copy of the album in-store or on our website then you will get one of these flags. We don't have many copies but then again we're a smalltown shop so it'll be aight.

If you're into bands like Johnny Blue Skies/Sturgill Simpson and Red Clay Strays then this might be your vibe. Hit us up before they're gone!
