I hope to see you all there!

What a great field trip today at Blandy Experimental Farm at the Virginia State Arboretum in Boyce. The herb garden is in excellent shape and is very informational, well labeled, and thriving! We had a personal tour guided by Blandy staff member, Carrie Whitacre. Thank you so much for an excellent job, Carrie! 🌿

We had a wonderful trip to the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley last Thursday, and an amazing lunch at Bonnie Blue just a block away! The gardens adjoining the museum and Glen Burnie House were fantastic with numerous water features and secret garden rooms, a Japanese tea house, natural rock outcroppings, etc., making for great wedding and photo venues.
This Thursday, June 16, our speaker at our regularly scheduled meeting will be Stephen Carroll, Director of Public Programs at the State Arboretum of Virginia. He will be speaking on the clock garden project he headed up with a number of interns. Come join us at Leesburg Presbyterian Church this Thursday morning at 9:30.

The first meeting of 2016 last Thursday was a great success! It was an organizational meeting and we took care of Guild "business" too. We want to welcome a new member, Yvette, who is going to add wonderful energy to the group; Yvette already volunteered to be our Hospitality Chairperson! Since we didn't hold elections last October we have a few remaining positions to fill. Long-time member, Loretta, volunteered to be our Secretary to record minutes of our meetings, and another long-time member, Lucia, volunteered to help with Programs. Acting President, Karen, gave the members some choices about field trips and also topics from a speaker from Blandy, our State Arboretum. Great choices were made; the members felt like they were a part of the year's programming, and we are off to a GREAT START IN 2016! IF you are interested in joining the Guild, or need to renew your membership, just give Karen a call at 540-454-1233.

A small group of members had a wonderful day at Quail Hollow Farm with Jaanine and Steve Glascock as our generous hosts! Enjoying a delicious catered lunch, we heard Jaanine talk about seasonal things to do in our gardens right now (with helpful handouts to take home). Her circular herb garden showed us the mature size of many of the plants in which we were interested; we then had the opportunity to purchase healthy, thriving potted plants. Steve demonstrated growing and harvesting luffa sponges, which was fascinating! And his 4-wheeler ATV tour of the farm was fun and exciting. Such beautiful vistas! Thank you to Jaanine and Steve for a delightful day!
