Whoever told you working hard is the key to sports...and life....they lied to you. Lots of people work hard. Most of us work hard. Persistence is the key. It's easy to work hard when things go great. It's easy to work hard when things go as planned. Failing and getting back up is hard. Failing twice and getting back up is harder. Working hard is short term. Persistence is long term. Show me a persistent athlete, a persistent person, and you're showing me a successful athlete, a successful person. This kid....he's as persistent as it gets.

Overhead stability and strength means everything when we're sn**ching any kind of weight. Maybe the most popular line of thinking when a bar is overhead is to show the armpits and seek external rotation of the shoulders. Does this make sense? I say no, unless you're able to sit completely vertical. In every other case....let's seek internal rotation and lock those lats and traps in.

10 years old. 185 lb squat. Eva had a day. Wardrobe malfunction, then she waited until the last possible second to set her feet for some reason. A lot to work on, but this weight isn't anywhere near her max potential, which is absolutely amazing. She gets a little better every day...putting us on track for the 2022 national championships in Vegas.

Sn**ch day 1. Lots of progress made today. The teaching process is my favorite part of weightlifting. Whole new worlds are opened when we take the time to learn correct positions.

The best part of this video is we have one group of new lifters learning to lift, while @lydia.lifty is learning to teach. Full circle. Pass it on and everyone gets better.

100 lbs. 10 years old. Shes starting to figure this junk out. Threw a little weight on the bar today to see where we fall apart. This kid is going to find her way onto some big time competition platforms at some point.

Something we don't see nearly enough of in athletes, but especially in the general population world of fitness is PAP. Post activation Potentiation. In other words pairing heavy or strength stuff up with light explosive stuff.

Crosstrain class, ever wonder why we almost always pair squats up with swings or sn**ches? Or on human trainer day we have those jumps you hate after our seated squat stuff? Bingo!

Athletes, ever wonder why every single squat day ever is paired with hack jumps? Split squats with jump lunges? Power pulls and deadlifts? High pulls and sn**ch grip deadlifts? Cleans and sn**ches with eccentrics? Bingo!

This week take a peek at your workouts. Is everything slow strength things? If so....time for a change. Don't know how or what? Cool. That's what I'm here for.

Early morning session. Our goal with the kettlebell swing is to swing as heavy a bell as we are capable of swinging for as few reps as possible to achieve our desired results. From far to near...62 lb bell, 90 lb bell, 54 lb bell. 10 swings every minute for 10 minutes....which is far and away the best method to maximize the results of the kettlebell swing. Those are some strong girls swinging bells well in excess of half their body weight.

We're told to act like a chair is behind us and to sit in it. WRONG.

We're told to keep the knees behind the toes. WRONG

She took the time, put In the work, and here we are 2 1/2 months later squatting that low.

Above all else....work to where you can squat that low.

Generally the teaching and strength process takes 1 to 3 months before we put a bar on someone's back, especially a kid. But every once in awhile that wait is unnecessary. This is day 2 in the gym, and her first ever back squats. This kiddo is going to be an amazing weightlifter. I made a post about a kid like this a year or so ago, and today he's the #1 ranked weightlifter in the country and will be trying to win a national championship at the end of the month. I can't wait to see where she is a year from today.

They're starting to hit the tough positions with consistency and the weight on the bar is creeping up. The hardest part can be staying the course and putting in the ground work. First we chase consistency. Then we chase speed. We've desperately needed her speed to come along. Finally something seemed to click with this drill. The little smirk tells the whole story. She knew right away what I've been blabbering to her about.

I normally don't like doing a lot of drills with the level of lifters I have. I think it can lead to paralysis by analysis and really muddy the waters in their heads. We do a ton of empty bar hang positions to hammer our footwork, bar path, and aggressiveness, then I have a few go to drills we throw in when it's needed. I think when you're still learning we have to be able to put everything together for a ton of reps in order to build a consistent and safe lifter.

If we can build off this speed with everything else she's so ridiculously good at with a bar in her hands, she's going to take off and be special. I. Can't. Wait.

Where are your knees at? If they're inside your feet fix it asap.
Whats your back angle? If the shoulders are in line with with the hips fix it asap.
Where are your feet? If they're not under the hips fix it asap.
These things matter. If it's possible to nail these things on the fly with a clean and a sn**ch, it's definitely possible to get it right with a back squat.

Squatting?

Uhm yes, I have a series of questions for/to you and/or/about your facility. Question number A.) can you and/or your facility make me fit/strong/pretty for a long time, not just help/show/teach me how to lift/move heavy/not light weights/people for a short amount of time. Secondly, question number C). Can/will/do you/your facility offer ways to/for me to not be a disgusting/greasy fat/overweight slob and for my wife/lifetime girlfriend love/lust me again. And for my family/friends to accept/approve/desire(I think) me again/too. K. Thanks.
I hope this is OK to post here. If not please delete. A friend of mine shared this in a Fit group from my church that I'm a part of and thought it was perfect for those of us who are beginning Crosstrain or Barre or Yoga or whatever....... There is a beautiful reality called imperfect progress. Imperfect changes are slow steps of progress wrapped in grace...imperfect progress. Progress. Just make progress. It's okay to have setbacks and the need for do-overs. It's okay to draw a line in the Sand and start over again---and again. Just make sure you're moving the line forward. Move forward. Take baby steps, but at least take steps that keep you from being stuck. Then change come. And it will be good. Thank you to all the trainers who have so much grace & patience to work with us newbies! You are much appreciated!
