We have officially changed our store hours! We will now be open from:
Monday - Friday: 10am-6pm
Saturday - Sunday: 10am-4pm
We also plan to expand our Saturday hours in the coming weeks and will let you know when that happens.
Animart has also added many new dog/cat items and we once again have Hermit Crabs back to our location, which has become a very popular pet for people within town and the surrounding communities!

Playful Pets has a new owner! The store will be closed on Easter Sunday, April 9th. Animart will be taking over operations and reopening on Monday, April 10th.
I have been working for several months with Animart (Animart - Madison Pet Store , Animart - Beaver Dam Pet Store , and Animart - Waunakee Pet Store ) and I am pleased to announce that they will be adding Lake Mills as a new location! It has been my distinct pleasure to serve the Lake Mills community, but I am ready to move on to other things, and Animart has much better resources available to bring Lake Mills the very best products and services for your pets.
I know how much Lake Mills loves having a pet store in town. Contrary to popular belief, Animart is also a locally owned and operated store. They do special orders, and they also offer the same loyalty programs that we do, and perhaps even better ones. They are excited to get to know this community and Lake Mill's needs so they can serve you even better.
Those of you who have been placing special orders with us will need to talk with Animart about getting special orders placed in the future. Some of you may have your special orders here already, so please check in soon to pick those up so that Animart can start their special order process.
Please also note that all loyalty cards with us will be transferred to Animart, so you will not lose your loyalty purchase history. This is awesome that Animart is honoring the loyalty cards of our customers, and I have been very happy with the process of working on this project with them.
I am grateful for the support I have received from Lake Mills over the past 3 years, and I hope you all will continue to support Animart as they work hard to serve you and your pets!

We are FINALLY fully stocked on Stella’s Raw Coated and Stella’s Essentials for those of you who have been waiting. Of course, the price has also increased, along with everything else in the world so we apologize for that. But, if you’ve been waiting on the Stella’s, you can now get it! We’re fully stocked on almost all of our dog and cat food brands now - pop in and check us out!

We are looking for an energetic, friendly, reliable person to help fill some hours at our retail pet supply store! This is a part-time position, but the ideal candidate would be available weekdays and weekends between the hours of 9:30-5:30 M-F and 10-4 Sat/Sun. The hours may vary, but we a looking for someone available most weekday afternoons, for a full day Wednesdays, and occasional weekend shifts.
The ideal person would also be interested in learning how to place orders with our distributors, restock items when we receive orders, and generally learn everything there is to know about the store and our products. There may be future opportunities for full-time work for the right candidate.

GiGi was found by a good Samaritan running down HWY GG near our rescue the night of 12/28. They called and asked if we were missing a dog and if we could take her. Without hesitation we jumped in the car, drove down the road and picked her up. We were sure someone was missing this dog because she is so sweet! She loves everyone she meets and she knows basic commands We posted on HS sites, Facebook, Sheriff office etc and no one came forward. One day we got a message from someone who said they knew the dog and owners. They didn't have much information on how she ended up on GG but did say they knew the owners moved out of state recently. They told us she is approx 2 yrs old. Is good with kids, dogs and cats ( we will be dog and cat testing). Through all this GiGi is still the sweetest and most loving dog 💕
Gigi will be looking for a forever family. She has an appointment to get spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and HW tested on 1/17 and will be ready for her home end of January early Feb if all goes well. She will need lots of exercise and room to run and play. She knows some basic commands but can use some consistency to correct her jumping up. She also has a great recall. It is with a heavy heart that we share some sad news today. Smokey the store cat started limping a couple months ago. We had X-rays done back in October which showed severe hip dysplasia in his left hip. We’ve been doing pain medication treatments and laser therapy while we determine the best course of action for him.
Yesterday, Smokey was having trouble walking and presented with severe pain. We redid X-rays this morning and discovered extreme progression of his hip issues in just two months, extending now to both hips. He was diagnosed with a genetic condition and his hips were close to fractured. He was in terrible pain.
We chose to make the difficult decision to let him pass over the rainbow bridge so he could be pain free. Based on the progression we’ve seen in such a short amount of time, he would have been in unmanageable pain, and that just isn’t fair to him.
Smokey had a short but wonderful life. He was a friend to Ernie and to everyone who came into the store. We know that many of you loved him as much as we did. We are so sorry you all didn’t get a chance to say goodbye, but his pain was significant and he deserved to be pain free.
Ernie and Nicole especially will be grieving his loss. Please be patient and kind to both of them, and understand that it may be difficult for Nicole to talk about for a while. She loved and cared for Smokey the most. We are so grateful for all of the love and support that you all have showed, and we thank you for making his short life a wonderful life.
Thank you for your continued support as we all grieve the loss of our beloved friend Smokey. May he run pain free, chase lasers to his heart’s content, and sit on the highest cat tree he could imagine. 💖
