Why You Should Go to the Farmers’ Market on Rainy Days

Remember: we are a rain or shine market!

Produce still grows and farmers/vendors still depend on YOU for their business. That said, we want to ensure all are safe and will keep an eye on the weather as the day progresses!

Grab that umbrella and rain boots and come on down to market tomorrow 10 AM to 2 PM!

The week before Thanksgiving is probably a busy one at your local farmers’ market. People descend in droves to gather their ingredients for the big day: potatoes, fresh cranberries, kale, carrots, sweet potatoes, celery, onions, broccoli, cauliflower, fresh herbs. The farmers respond appropriately...

The value of food increases as much as 80-85% as it travels among the food system for distribution.

By shopping local and direct not only supports local economies, but puts money back in farmers' pockets where it belongs, so they can continue their work to bring you the best and freshest foods.

Our Story

The 2020 season is proudly sponsored by St Luke’s Episcopal Church Thrift Shop and the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation! Thanks to their dedication to the health of our community, the public market can provide weekly events and programming for all ages.

The newly re-branded Jamestown Public Market has operated in the Jamestown area for over 100 years. Though the landscape for the market has changed throughout the years, what remains is the dedication from local farmers and vendors to retain this food system enterprise in Jamestown.

Jamestown is often the epicenter for revitalization initiatives and development projects that benefit the entirety of Chautauqua County. The market is proud to be currently managed under the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation, a local non-profit community development organization.

We accept SNAP, WIC, FMNP, and participate in the Double Up Food Bucks Program. Contact us for more information on how to redeem nutrition benefits at the market.

Awesome Market day
I Sandy Nelson will not there today
As someone who enjoys weekly visits to the farmer’s market, I thought I would share with you this Netflix documentary I just watched called Kiss the Ground. This film genuinely tugged at my heart strings. I am passionate about the environment, and I stand in full support of the film and its message about the transition to regenerative culture. Through a farming method called regenerative agriculture, CO2 goes back down into living plants to revive our soil. Regenerative agriculture reduces fire hazards! Through this process, we can increase soil moisture, sustain plant growth, and have more local rainfall and less brittle environments. The film is definitely worth the watch!
It wasn’t as pretty as Sean Jones but it was delicious!! 😋
I am seeking a new or used So Clean machine for my bipap desvice. 😁
Jamestown Public Market- The Raspberry fruit bar was amazing!!! Yum 😋
When you're at the market on Saturday, stop by Sunshine Honey. Pick up some sweetness and don't forget to wish "The Queen Bee (aka Robbie) happy birthday 😎😎
Please help our young girls!! They came up with the idea to do a back to school drive for kids that can’t afford supplies!! They wanted to do this to help the community so please if you are able to donate a backpack! Comment if you are able to. If you donate you will get a chance to win a free children’s bike.

June 9, 2018 Saturday It was such a lovely day today. I got up early and arrived in time for the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at what used to be called the Jamestown Farmer's Market, and is now called the Jamestown Public Market, on Cherry Street in Jamestown NY today. It will be a weekly event all summer long, every Saturday from 10 to 2 pm.. There was an event on Facebook written up for it, and I responded, and I actually went! There was live music 12 to 1 pm from Russell and Hamels under a tent almost at 2nd and Cherry, and a Balloon Man making balloon animals for children, free of charge. Mr. Balloon Man did graciously accept tips. He was so friendly, and the music was very relaxing. Russell and Hamels started off with Mr. Bo Jangles, and it only got better from there, for a full hour, noon to 1:00 pm. There was a free sample table, right in front of them, where nothing was being offered for sale. It was simply a table to sample a variety of food from the Market, and with recipes to give away about how to cook these items. I tried an asparagus dip that really looked like guacamole. They also had bruschetta to dip into it, a neat salad with a lot of fixings, and meat on the grill. I could barely believe it when I found out you can buy or subscribe to have various fresh meats, including rabbit delivered to your home from one of the vendors at the Jamestown Public (Farmer's ) Market! I have not eaten rabbit since I was a child and my father used to shoot rabbits. I fondly remember eating rabbit boiled in Italian sauce for dinner from the ages of 4 to 17 and spitting out bullets (I guess they call that buckshot) into my plate at dinner time when eating fresh rabbit boiled in sauce. So of course I got all excited about the opportunity to eat rabbit boiled in sauce again, and I may order some soon from the Market! I think the ones they sell at the Market are butchered though, and not shot with bullets. I can live with that, I'm sure. While I was talking to the fresh meat vendor, I was sharing conversation with another patron, who was holding her small son. He kept giggling and bursting out laughing, and nobody really knew why. I realized every child I saw today at the Market was smiling and extremely happy. Some played on the grass behind the Reg, other simply walked up and down Cherry St with their parents, and others got free balloons from Mr. Balloon Man. Some also went to the Sprouts table, sponsored by Jamestown Pediatrics, to have a healthy snack and color pictures, and get fake tattoos, and just have a generally fun time. It was a stark contrast to how I usually see children behaving at indoor supermarkets. Everyone I saw, even the small children, were in good spirits. It was not very crowded at all. While I was enjoying the music, a friend called me on my cell phone and I asked her where she was and why she was not there with me as we had planned. She said she had come at 10 am, and felt there was nothing there to do or buy, so she went home. "Au contraire, mon cherie", I thought! I was having a blast listening to the live music and watching Mr. Balloon Man, and trying free samples, and chatting at the Mental Health Association Table, and the Sprouts table, and the Herbs Table, and admiring the flowers the Amish vendors were selling. I could even smell the flowers from all the way down the street. And there were no bees, or bugs, and the weather was a nice 74 degrees F. And I found a comfortable chair to sit in near the live band, and I sang along with them as much as I could. It was just such a beautiful day. I did not find any products to buy this time though, but I was told that soon there will be more produce there. We have to wait for some of it to actually grow, before we see tomatoes, zucchini and cucumbers there for sale. So today, learning about the meat vendor, and the green, yellow, blue and white chicken eggs she sold out of today, and the rabbit meat, and the herbs table where they had free cucumber lemon water, was pretty awesome anyway. And the Amish people ran out of radishes can you believe that? They sold out too. They still had rhubarb for sale though. I wish they had some carduni for sale! There was also home made maple syrup, and barbecue rhubarb sauce at the free sample table. I understand that every week this will be a community event with live music and child friendly activities. I recommend it to everyone. It is nothing like the regular shopping you would normally do. It is a great experience. From Regina Mazzurco Gonzalez
