For the last year we've leaned on the CDC and our local health departments for COVID-19 guidance. The CDC has changed their guidance to only require masks in public places for those who are unvaccinated. As of June 7th, Marion County has removed it's mask mandate for local businesses.

With no local ordinance in place and no national guidance requiring masks, enforcement on our part becomes much more problematic so we are no longer going to require masks in store for fully vaccinated customers.

Initially, we had intended to require masks for events but realized that two-tiered enforcement for event participant vs non-event participant was going to create more headaches than it solved. With that in mind, we are removing the mask requirement for fully vaccinated event participants as well.

All of this is left entirely up to the honor system, but if we find out about any unvaccinated person participating in our events or using our game room without a mask, they will be asked to leave and risk being banned from future game room usage.

Hey folks, with Wizard’s announcement that they are allowing sanctioned Magic play in stores and the upcoming release of Modern Horizons 2, we’ve been getting a lot of calls asking about Magic events. Our top priorities have and always will be the safety of our staff and guests, which is why vaccination eligibility has always been a key factor in our decision to resume organized events. We wanted to ensure that all adults had access to the vaccine and time for it to fully activate in their systems before events resumed. We’ve also been monitoring the state COVID dashboard for weekly trends regarding new cases and positivity rates.

With that said and cautious optimism, we are planning on returning in-store organized Magic events on Friday June 4th to shake off the cobwebs and the weekend of June 11th for Modern Horizons prerelease events. There will however still remain a number of restrictions in place:

1. Masks will be required and must be properly worn at all times. This means your nose and mouth must both remain covered AT ALL times. Plastic visors DO NOT count as adequate masks for these events. We will be strictly enforcing this policy and only warning once, if the problem persists we will be forced to remove you from the event and ask you to leave.
2. No food or drinks will be allowed inside the event space.
3. You will be asked to remain seated between rounds.
4. We reserve the right to require temperature checks as a prerequisite for event participation.
5. Event capacity will be tied to the state’s occupancy guidelines found at coronavirus.in.gov (currently both Marion and Monroe county are advising 50% capacity for gatherings).
6. Participants will be required to provide contact information for each event they participate in. This list will be kept and provided to state contact tracers in the event exposure does occur.
7. Anyone who knowingly participates in an event with active COVID will be banned from participating in events at The Game Preserve.

So what do we need to do between now and then? First, please get your vaccine. Second, if you haven’t already done so, go to accounts.wizards.com to sign up for an account and download the MTG Companion app to your phone. Wizards of the Coast has rolled out new event software that requires these accounts. If you already have an MTG Arena account, it should use the same e-mail and password for the app.

“When will other events resume?” You’re probably asking. After we get through these two weekends of events, we’ll evaluate how and whether to proceed with other games as every community is different and has different event needs.

We've had a lot of people asking about when in-store events will return.

Short answer: it will be vary by the game and by location and further expansion will be based on how well the portions of the community we allow back follow the guidelines in place. We are NOT willing to put the health of our local community at an increased risk.

Long answer: Road Map Below

While we recognize that your game not being available as soon as possible can feel like an inconvenience, we can assure you that there's nothing convenient about operating an empty gaming space.
We'll be bringing games back starting with those that pose the lowest risk and instituting restrictions.

New Game Room Restrictions:
Properly worn masks will be required at all times.
No food will be permitted in the gaming area.
Spectators will not be permitted in the gaming area.

Phase 1: Friday June 19th
Miniature Games
Miniature games, by nature, feature larger playing surfaces with players standing further apart and a reduced number of players. We will still need to reduce the number of tables available.

Phase 2: Friday June 26th
Card Games Tournaments
We're differentiating Card Game Tournaments from Card Game Casual Play because of the nature of how they're structured. With structured play, we're able to assign players to specific seats to better coordinate for distancing and the cleaning of those areas after the event has completed.

Phase 3: To be determined
Small Group Gaming
Small group gaming includes board games and card game casual play (like Commander) or open play. We'll still be limiting the number of players per table and the number of tables allowed.

Phase 4: To be determined
Large Group Gaming
Large group gaming will be the last to return to the gaming space. Role playing games, by their nature feature larger groups closely seated around an intimate setting. Role Playing Games will resume, at reduced capacity and Small Group Games will have slightly expanded capacity.

Phase 5: To be determined
No Restrictions
This will be when everything is back to "the good ol' days" before the time of COVID-19, this won't likely happen until there is a vaccine readily available.

06/05/2020

Marion County has issued a curfew for Friday and Saturday nights beginning at 8pm. We will be open both days for reduced hours of 10am-7pm to leave our employees and customers plenty of time to get home.

We're reopening Friday May 15th at 10am!
