A little break from Mother Nature means the laser is humming again.

We’re catching up on custom orders this week and getting ready to start putting the new hat press through its paces. These custom leatherette patches are some of the projects coming off the bench, and we’ve got several more waiting their turn.

From business logos and ranch brands to custom designs and one-of-a-kind ideas, we’re excited to add hats to what we offer.

Turns out Dave still remembers how to run the laser. 😎

Tonight the engraver is busy knocking out custom orders, and we’re excited to get some projects off the bench and into our customers’ hands.

We also unboxed the new hat press and received our first shipment of hats. That means the next adventure officially begins. Now comes the fun part—learning, testing, and dialing things in so we can create hats you’ll be proud to wear and won’t want anyone else making.

We’re excited about the possibilities this opens up and can’t wait to share some of the first finished products with you.

Dave’s back and finally getting caught up from the real job, which means it’s time to get the laser fired back up and get rolling on some custom orders that have come in.

We’re also putting the finishing touches on the hat press setup and getting ready to put it to work. We’ve got a few new ideas in the pipeline and can’t wait to share them with you.

Small Business Saturday

While Dave’s been out doing fire things, the shop has been a little quieter than normal. The good news? Mother Nature lent a hand on the mission in Eastern Montana, and he’ll be headed home tomorrow night.

That means it’s almost time to get the lasers fired back up and get back to creating. We’ve got some custom orders in the works and a few new ideas we’re excited to share in the coming weeks.

We just wanted to take a minute to say thank you to everyone who follows along, likes, shares, comments, and supports this little adventure of ours. What started as a hobby has turned into something pretty special, and we couldn’t do it without all of you.

A quick note from The Modern Merc shop…

Dave has switched from maker mode to day-job mode and is currently out helping coordinate the Bradshaw Fire.

It is a very early start to fire season here in Montana, and when duty calls, the laser gets quiet for a bit. The shop may be a little dark while he’s wearing his fire hat, but we’ll be back to creating as soon as we can.

In the meantime, please keep our firefighters, pilots, helitack crews, dispatchers, emergency crews, landowners, and everyone responding to (and impacted by) these fires in your thoughts.

It is going to be a long season, and we are grateful for every single person stepping in to help.

A customer asked if we could make custom livestock ear tags… so we fired up the laser and gave it a shot (with the help of a special little shop assistant ).

Safe to say they turned out pretty darn nice!

These custom tags can be personalized with names, brands, logos, or designs to make your animals stand out from the herd. Looks like we found another item to add to the lineup for our ranching and livestock friends.

The shop lights are off today.

After two days at our first pop-up shop, we’re taking a little time to celebrate Jen and Dave’s anniversary. ❤️

We learned a ton, sold some great products, met some amazing people, and already have ideas to make the next event even better.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by, visited, and supported our small business this weekend. We truly appreciate every one of you.

Now it’s time to enjoy the rest of Memorial Day weekend and recharge before getting back to creating tomorrow. 🇺🇸
