It's always a pleasure watching a customer getting to know their custom guitar. Here's the first few moments from this morning when Nicholas Snodgrass was getting to know his one of kind 4 string guitar.

A few months ago Nicholas Snodgrass asked about creating a 3 string solid body electric guitar that combines the best of the full-size electric guitars and the cigar box guitars I've created. It took a bit to get the proportions correct, but once I did, this guitar came together pretty quickly. The usual components of Grover Sta-Tite tuning machines, CTS potentiometer and Orange Drop capacitor, Puretone barrel output jack were used along with a Seymour Duncan Invader pickup, which produces an extremely large sound for this diminutive instrument. Ultimately, the clean, sweet menacing roar of this guitar is enough to make you believe in angels and demons.

It's been a busy couple of days in the shop. I've been working on details on the 3 string electric guitar for Nicholas Snodgrass and I also started creating my first archtop acoustic guitar. Check out the captions for more indepth details.

After sanding a radius into the neck for the guitar for Nicholas Snodgrass , I set the fret slot depth and then proceeded to carve the neck with a pair of spokeshaves. Definitely made some wood chips today. Stay tuned for this unique electric 3 string guitar to become a reality.

Thank you Robert C. Weaver for coming by the shop this morning to put Tom Hart new guitar through its paces.

The latest guitar to come off the workbench is this willow and walnut beauty. All of the wood for this guitar was harvested on the Hart Family Farm. Tom Hart commissioned this instrument to celebrate the 50th anniversary since his father purchased the Farm. The most touching element of this guitar is the willow tree the body is created from, is the shade tree Tom's dad did his mechanic work under.

This particular guitar is equipped with the usual components including, Grover Sta-Tite tuning machines, Stringjoy nickel wound Broadway strings, CTS potentiometers, Orange Drop capacitors, Switchcraft 3-way selector switch, ebony k***s, a roller bridge and V stop bar tailpiece.

The pickups are a pair of Filtertrons that Robert C. Weaver donated to the project. Hopefully we can get Bob to demonstrate this guitar in the near future.

Remarkably, this guitar weighs in at 4 pounds 15 ounces. Counter intuitively, the sustain and tone are rich and vibrant. The fretboard pattern was achieved by cutting along the grain line between the sap wood and heart wood.

A preview of the guitar I'm creating for Tom Hart . Stay tuned for further updates.

Spent some time over at Holt Lumber Company LLC today putting dibs upon some spectacularly beautiful walnut. It's going to take quite a long time for this freshly cut slab of walnut to dry, but it might be ready to be turned into a guitar by Christmas 2025.

A customer of mine, Nicholas Snodgrass salvaged so gym flooring years ago when the gymnasium was refurbished. When Nick purchased his first 3 string Cigar Box Guitar from me last year, we traded some of this maple flooring for the labor portion of his guitar. I did use this material for that guitar and other guitars also. When I created my router table/workbench I used some of this material for the surface. Today, I grabbed a piece, ran it through the table saw and the planner, then marked and cut the fret slots into the fret board before gluing it onto the neck blank. Eagle eye observers will notice this is a 6 string neck blank that will be used on a 3 string electric guitar. Later in the week, I will trim everything to shape. I'm really excited about this project, enough that I might create one for myself.

Although today isn't the first day I've participated in harvesting wood, I always am grateful for each opportunity to participate in this process. Today, Tom Hart and I were lending a hand out at Candy Layfield place. Some of the wood harvested today is going to be used in the creation of a custom guitar for Greg, Candy's husband. When Tom and I mill these logs, I'll share some images of the inside of the logs. More than anything, I am grateful for the opportunity to participate.
