To any of the local Long Islanders out there that have used KRP Surplus Electronics, I'm sad to say that business is no more. I met a fellow that was coordinating a cleanout of the facility and he said Barry's got a few problems with his health and other personal things. I wish him the best of luck.
If you remember, Freeport had it's own little "Radio Row" what with Community Electronics and KRP that both opened up in the mid 60's and both on Sunrise Highway. Both were a surplus radio and parts paradise. Community left us in the mid 80's and KRP left for larger quarters about 25 years ago. Barry stayed in business in Farmingdale until now.
One by one, all the good places to get stuff are slowly leaving for good.
Update: I spoke to Barry over the phone today (1-4-25) and my worst fears were realized.....he's shutting down for good. He cited having too many problems to be able to run the business anymore. His vintage cars, Plastic models (he had thousands of them) but most of all was his warehoused sized collection of vintage and new electronic parts and items.......all sold or headed for the scrap heap.
We talked for a while when he was located in Freeport and then moved to Farmingdale and that was pretty much it.
I wish him good luck in health and in his future endeavours.

When you own vintage you win twice. When you buy and own, you get to play and enjoy, and when you sell you participate in the dollar increase from your purchase price.

The Radio Yard Sale.....
This is one of the yearly shows I had when the Antique Radio Repair Service had been in operation for about 10 years and the shop was reaching critical mass. Most of what you see here were restored radios and were surplus to my needs. This particular event was in May 20, 2001.

This came across the bench today.....
A 1947 Chrysler push button radio. It's a Mopar 802. Missing it's vi****or, I lashed up a temporary unit complete with jumpers. Other than testing the tubes, I'll need the speaker assy because of the field coil in the speaker. That'll be here on Monday. Plenty of cleanup work to do for the time being......

One of my collecting hobbies are "bugs" of the telegraph kind. Here's an example of a 1916 Vibroplex semi-automatic telegraph key. This old lady now works and with an experienced operator can run with the fastest.

A quiet Sunday morning at the bench.....

Hi Guys.....
Reading one of the posts on another page, and with all the necessary talk about bench safety and so on, we all occasionally slip up when working on a "hot" radio...usually when taking readings, alignment and so on.
So my question is....
Anyone remember their FIRST belt with B+?
True experiences, anecdotes, stories passed down and the like are all welcomed.
Think about it.....
