WHAT IS MEDICAL MA*****NA?
To break down Florida’s medical ma*****na laws, we first need to understand what medical ma*****na is. As qualifying medical ma*****na physicians, we’re often asked:
What’s the difference between medical and ‘regular’ ma*****na?
In short, ma*****na is ma*****na. The distinction between recreational (or “regular”) ma*****na and medical ma*****na comes down to legal definitions determined by each state and the way the product is being used. Essentially, recreational ma*****na is cannabis used without any medical justification.
Florida lawmakers consider “all parts of any Cannabis plant” ma*****na; however, ma*****na is only considered “medical” if it’s dispensed from a medical ma*****na treatment center (MMTC) (dispensary) to a state-qualified patient.
MEDICAL MA*****NA CARD STEPS
If you’re interested in getting started with medical ma*****na, Cannabis Clinic can help!
Before purchasing cannabis from a licensed MMTC, or dispensary, patients must first visit a physician who has completed the state-mandated education requirements to recommend, or prescribe, medical ma*****na. (All of our Cannabis Clinic physicians are certified).
After the certified physician has determined that the patient is in fact eligible, the physician then forwards their recommendation to the Florida Department of Health. The Florida Department of Health issues the patient website login credentials, after which the patient is able to pay the state-required fee of $75 online and complete their application.
Within 7-14 business days, the Florida Department of Health will send approval confirmation via email. At this point, patients may begin purchasing medical ma*****na products – even before their official medical ma*****na card arrives!
According to Florida state law, patients must visit their medical ma*****na physician (in-person) every 210 days to renew their certification.
