Deeper Than Under
I ran across this 48hr film today and thought I'd share. Made in 2004, Written and directed by Kirk Mangels. The film won Honorable Mention for the film, and Best Cinematography, DC branch of 48hr filmfest.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RE13wzUP8bw
Kirk and Brad Mendlesohn approached me to work with them on this project, and Id never done a 48hr so I was interested. But I was also concerned it would drag into a crazy long day and that I wouldn't have needed support. I was an arse-ho and said Id do it, but wanted certain things. 10 hrs max, descent food, enough people around to help do whatever is needed, and I wanted to shoot in Black and White. And I have to say they came through on all fronts. I think I was packing up to leave after 9 hours, and they delivered good food, and there were plenty of people around to help whatever was needed. I did also offer a few hours the eve before to shoot a credit sequence once they were awarded the genre (film Noir), which worked out very well for the Black and White idea. They gave me a few props and I ended up shooting the stopwatch and the rain (for real) on the window (with lightning effects) the eve before shoot..... while they were writing the script. There really was wild lighting that night and so I went with it on the watch shots and rain on window, not having any idea what the story would be. Its pretty crazy what one can pull off in 48hrs. The coincidental rain and lightning helped set a mood..... and we recreated the actor looking out the window the next day on set at PhotoGroup studio. I think it all came together amazingly well considering how much was left to chance and a bunch of creative people trying to figure something out that might be entertaining (maybe not). Anyway, this was my one and only 48hr film project.... and I think it's pretty funny!
With a wink toward Film Noir, "Deeper Than Under" twists hypnosis till it turns inside upon itself. "Deeper Than Under" won first runner up in the 2004 Wash...

‘Fauci’ documentary showcases the controversial doctor’s wins and shortcomings
The Fauchi film I worked on last fall is out in the theaters this week.
https://films.nationalgeographic.com/fauci
Went to a DC screening on Saturday. It’s a decent film and historical document recounting not just the covid craziness but also Fauchi’s involvement with the Aids epidemic which was even more controversial in some ways and draws some parallels.
The film was shot over approximately a year and my involvement covering a 3 month period (Aug-Nov). But it was a very exciting 3 months to be hanging with the Dr through the heat of the lead up to the election and all the political BS going on and the new covid infection rate during my stint was going straight up.
Dr Fauchi is shown to be exactly who he portrays himself as…. a dedicated professional, passionate, and honest man trying to do the right-thing and save lives.
The film should be streaming somewhere in the next few months.
https://datebook.sfchronicle.com/movies-tv/fauci-documentary-showcases-the-controversial-doctors-wins-and-shortcomings
In the illuminating portrait of Dr. Anthony Fauci, filmmakers Janet Tobias and John Hoffman focus on the lessons he learned battling the HIV epidemic.

New LED arrived called a Prolycht 300 Orion. Yes a weird brand name, agree!
The lamp mimics the Apurture 300d in many ways, size, shape, Bowens mount, wattage, etc, but thats where it stops. The more important part is that it uses the same technology as the ARRI Orbitor (so I'm told by the rep), and uses 6 different color LED emitters, so its RGB and can reproduce any color and the cine colors are much more accurate. Daylight in most contemporary LEDS has become quite good but tungsten color has not been reproduced all that great. But this type of tech produces nice Tungsten as well as every color and most gels from Roscoe and lee, and effects, etc.
Plus the lamp offers a bunch of great attachments, including a very good projector for gobo's and hard cut leaf shutter. All for not much more than the Aputure 300d.

Our Story
Dc Camera began its life in 2004 when Erich Roland wanted to invest in an expensive High Definition Camera system an order to be in a better position to shoot HD material. At that time there were few cameras in individuals hands because of the high cost involved. The investment began to work as more and more HD content was needed and one camera turned into two and each year Dc Camera has grown naturally from increased demand of its rental services.
Today Dc Camera has the largest and most diverse inventory of any rental facility between Atlanta and New York city. Just a few of the headlines include Arri Alexa/Mini/Amira, Red Monstro/Helium/Scarlet-W and Monochrome, Sony Venice, F5, Fs7. Canon C300-2, DSLR's, camera sliders, jibs, Lenses, lighting, audio, Strobes, Grip gear and a lot more. The last 2 years Dc Camera has been buying up Anamorphic lens sets, and now has five different sets. Zeiss Master Anamorphic, Cooke Anamorphic, Atlas Orion, and CineVision. For Sperical style, we have whatever you want, including some rare Vintage sets. We also now have the Zeiss Supremes!
Important to note we service a lot of out-of-town clientele with cheap shipping. Give us a call or send an email and let us show you how we can help for your production.

When Yari Ising at TeamPeople first called us with this wish we jumped at the chance to join the project. When we saw the treatment, we took a deep breath. We knew we needed some hardcore back-up and started working our contacts to find the talent and resources to pull off Mason's action-packed superhero plot that fearlessly embraced stunts, fight scenes, special effects, and destruction on a cosmic scale.
ThunderShot Studios is grateful that so many people said yes to us and we'd like to thank all of you for turning Mason's wish into something special. Without you we wouldn't have had actors, amazing sets, dramatic lighting, breathtaking wirework, cinematic cameras/lenses, transformative hair and make-up, and the layers of color and sound that made The Fallen real.
So thanks again Dc-Camera, Henninger Media Services (especially Sue O'Hora), The Washington Source for Lighting, Kim Reyes, Wes Sullivan, Carl Hamilton, Jaime Nudd, Jeff Wilhelm, Scene 1, Becky Shpak, Kari Bare, Stephen Guidry-White, and Andrew Jorgensen!
