Just completed: Custom Concert Ukulele with back, sides, fingerboard and bridge of Hawaiian Koa cut before WWII, and a top of AAA Oregon Western Red Cedar. The unique rosette is curly Maple and Koa. It's the first instrument completed in my new shop, and I'm extremely pleased with it. It has a vintage look and sound - bright and loud right out of the shop, and it will only get more so over time. The latest custom SpruceHouse ukulele, a long-necked soprano with back and sides of figured Mahogany, Sitka Spruce top, rosewood binding and Ebony fingerboard and bridge. Paua Abalone rosette and position markers, Gotoh planetary-geared tuners and strap buttons complete this instrument. Going to a new home in Utah.

Brand-new custom Koa Tenor ukulele with West African Ebony fingerboard and bridge, curly Maple rosette ring and Gotoh Premium tuners. This Koa wood may look a little plain, but it has an amazing legacy: Cut in Hawaii before WWII, several boards of this wood were brought back to the mainland after the war by a sailor, and carefully stored for 60 years before I acquired them in a trade from his family. To say that it is well-seasoned is an understatement. It has a tone that must be heard to be believed. This instrument comes with a true hardshell case.

I've seen all kinds of jigs and techniques for joining plate halves for the back and tops of instruments, but this low-tech method is the way I've always done it. It's fast, easy and I've never had a joint failure.
