You could buy choice chuck roast at the grocery store this week and get sticker shock 😯, or you could get PRIME chuck roast from me for less. Just sayin'! (This one was still frozen when I took the picture.)

Serious question though, for local folks. If you could sign up for a beef subscription either monthly or bi-monthly over the winter, would you?? I have reserved some locker spots and made plans to feed a few head over the winter, so I would love to give this try!

We have been getting several calls from customers who have not received a sale catalog. Not sure what's up; catalogs were mailed out on March 6, 2020 by the printer. If you are missing your catalog please let us know and we will get one out to you right away!!

Damp and cold out when Curt and I were processing calves this morning. Especially damp for Curt because one mama cow kept giving him a bath while he processed her calf; lick the calf then lick Curt, lick the calf again and then lick Curt, this went on until he was finished :) LOVE the disposition of our cow herd .

Changes to the 2020 Jager Land & Livestock Private Treaty Bull Sale
Mandates from Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds restricting gatherings to 10 people or less due to the corona-virus have made it necessary for us to change the format for our bull sale this year. The bull sale will not be held as advertised on March 28, 2020. We sincerely apologize for the confusion and inconvenience this will cause our customers, however we must do our part to help in the efforts to contain the spread of this virus.
We have thought, discussed and drove ourselves crazy trying to figure out the fairest thing to do for all customers involved. Due to the mandates, we cannot have an opening day with people as planned. To get videos and do an online sale will take time and raise the cost of production. So, how do we make sure every-one has the same opportunity to purchase the bull of their choice and get the sale done quickly so early breeders can fulfill their seedstock needs?
Here is what we have decided and we hope it works for you!
You should all have a catalog by now listing the sale bulls. An update sheet on the bulls is enclosed. Bulls are available for viewing any time starting immediately. If possible, please call before you come to make sure others will not be here at the same time and to make sure we are home. So, here’s how we plan to do the sale this year, step by step.
1. Show up and look at the bulls by appointment. Tell us the bull(s) you are interested in. We will have a board posted at the back of the bull barn with each bull listed, along with the floor price of each bull.
2. We will assign you a bidder number and this number will be placed next to the bull(s) you tell us you would like to purchase. If someone else has already bid on this bull, you have the right to bid higher and the amount of your bid will be written next to the bull along with your bidder number. You can leave us a maximum bid amount on a bull. If two or more people are interested in the same bull, bids will be raised in $100.00 increments. Your bid will not be raised to your maximum bid unless there are enough competing bids to raise the bid to that amount. We will call you, as soon as possible, if someone out bids you and give you the option of raising your bid or of course you could bid on a different bull. In the past, many bulls have sold at floor price. A spreadsheet of this year’s bulls and the current bids will be listed on our website, www.jllangus.com and you can track bulls and bids there if you like. You cannot make bids on the website, the site is not equipped for that and we apologize for this. Bids can also be made thru email at [email protected].
3. Bids will be closed on April 4, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. At this time, whoever has the highest bid on a bull will own the bull. We will contact you to discuss if you want to pick the bull up right away or have us hold it till June 1. Older bulls will be expected to be picked up within a week of April 4, 2020. Invoices will be mailed out directly, with ½ of the total purchase price due immediately and the rest due when you pick up your bull. Discounts and payment options will be the same as listed in the catalog.
After 1:00 p.m. on April 4, 2020, any remaining bulls will be available on a first come-first serve basis. Remember, we are limited in the number of people we can have on the farm until the restrictions are lifted so it will be best to call first.
PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CALL US. We are sure this might be confusing to some of you. We want to make things as easy and fair as we can for all our customers. This is the fairest way we can figure out in a short time that ensures everyone has the same opportunities to bid on all the bulls while allowing us to comply with state mandates for gatherings. It also allows the bull sale to happen as quickly as possible so producers who want to get their bulls to pasture soon may do so. COMMUNICATION is going to be the key, so call us with your concerns or questions. We will make this work; we want to satisfy our customers and help you keep your breeding operations running smoothly. 2019 brought the “Polar Vortex”, 2020 gives us “Coronavirus” and 2021 is “yet to be determined”. We are America’s cattle producers, we adapt and overcome together!
