As if we weren’t excited enough to welcome you back into the store after summer break! Give a warm welcome to Maddie. Maddie has been a loyal customer from day 1 here at Golden Hour and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have her join our team. And yes, we now have 2 Maddie’s! 😂❤️

A little about her…

Maddie is an Illinois native who came to Des Moines over a decade ago for a job and stayed for love. She and her husband, Hunter, run the nonprofit which focuses on creating safe, affordable housing for folks with intellectual and developmental disabilities as well as providing educational resources for their families.

True to her Ta**us nature, Maddie loves to indulge her senses. She is a long-time candle connoisseur and likes deep, moody scents like Borough Home’s Slow Jam or FYG’s Frankincense + Myrrh. When she’s not in the shop you can find her curled up with a juicy fantasy fiction or enjoying any kind of flight - wine, cheese and the occasional airline.

It’s officially time to bring those garden smells inside all summer long 🍅

We are officially on our annual summer break! This business is highly seasonal so we rest a bit each summer and prepare like crazy for the madness that is fall and winter fragrance shopping, but continue to bring you beautiful goods online of course.

Online orders continue to be filled during our break and local pickups are done at our sister shop CKD HOME. Want to shop in person and schedule a private time to do so? Just shoot us an email and we’ll accomodate you no problemo ❤️🫶🏼

Meet the newest member of our team, Zekilah!

You’ve already seen her around the shop and in our social media content, so now a proper introduction is in order!

Zekilah is a recent Des Moines transplant and the owner of .candles . Being a candle maker herself means she brings a wealth of knowledge into the shop re: all things home fragrance from a maker perspective which is such a fantastic resource for our customers (and us!)

Zekilah is from Charleston, SC and a recent graduate of the University of South Carolina. She is passionate about all things public health and sustainability. In her free time you can find her wrapped up in a good book or hitting the gym.
